PS: Olivier Faure majority in the national council of the party

2023-02-17T14:48:56.583Z

The “absolute majority” acquired by the first secretary within the national council should close the internal war which raged at the PS throughout the month of January.

Even if it takes experience to be cautious at the PS so many new gusts have arrived quickly, the storm that has rocked the rose party all month of January finally seems to be calming down.

The re-election of Olivier Faure as first secretary is no longer contested by his opponent Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, despite the tight result (51.09% against 48.91%).

Better, his victory was confirmed by the first results of the elections of the first federal secretaries, who make up for a third the national council, the parliament of the party.

“Extensively what we need”

The leader of the Socialists would, according to those around him, already be assured of having

"the absolute majority"

, with at least 155 seats out of 306, even if the elections must continue in the federations until February 25.

Enough to extinguish the criticisms of its internal opponents who considered that the balance of power would be much tighter, to the point of making the party

“ungovernable”

.

Majority in the national council, Olivier Faure should therefore have a free hand to carry out his strategy of union of the left within the framework of Nupes.

In Le

Figaro

on Thursday, the first secretary was delighted:

“This is largely what we need with a majority in the national office and one in the national council.

In the diversity of territories, most socialists have had sufficient lucidity to understand that the reconstruction of the PS will take place within the gathering of the left and environmentalists

, ”he said.

The only regret in the Faure camp: not having won the Paris federation, won Thursday evening by ex-MP Lamia El Aaraje, close to Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol and Anne Hidalgo.

Weakened internally since the presidential election, the mayor of Paris therefore retains her legitimacy within the capital.
