The Schongau carnival society stormed the Peiting town hall for the first time.

The mayor not only had to lead a polonaise, but also shoot a promotional video for Schongau.

Peiting/Schongau – What a spectacle: When Peiting's mayor with a bowler hat on his head makes a polonaise with the Schongau princely couple, Elferrat and Prinzengarde across the Peiting town hall – it's just totally crazy!

This is exactly what happened yesterday afternoon in Peiting.

There, the Schongau carnival society had an amazing premiere with the first storming of the Peiting town hall.

The carnival party managed the surprise really well.

Because: Even if the royal couple “Prince Stephan from the chateau of noble wines” and his “Princess Anja from the Castillo der Sprachkuenste” had already announced at the inthroball that this year they not only wanted to get the Schongauer, but also the Peitinger town hall key – Municipal chief Peter Ostenrieder had probably not expected a storm of this kind.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Schongau newsletter.)

The mayor is amazed: the carnival party takes over the town hall

Led by drummers, the sizeable carnival troupe marches loudly through Bachstrasse at 2.30 p.m. over the Peitnach Bridge in front of the town hall.

"Lech-Au!

Lech-Au!

Lech-Au!” The mayor, for whom his secretaries had entered a “citizen appointment” in the calendar, is quite astonished, but then laughs and waves down from the office window.

The executive office above is quickly taken.

"We thought, this year we don't just want to govern in Schongau, but also in Peiting," demands SFG President Alexander Blasi - himself from Peiting - in clear words for power over Peiting's town hall.

"I'll say it for a long time, one mayor is enough for both places," grins Ostenrieder, looking towards Schongau.

Big laugh.

"The question is, who is the better one?" Counters Blasi.

In order to keep both in the running, Ostenrieder should now also be integrated into the SFG, Princess Anja announces, saying so and cutting off her tie first.

Meanwhile, Prince Stephan reverses the roles and wears a “mayor” sign.

Ostenrieder becomes the "Prince".

Peiting's mayor leads a polonaise through the town hall and shoots a promotional video for Schongau

He masters his first task as regent with flying colors, leading a polonaise with the entire SFG squad through the town hall.

Gabi Waldner has already provided sparkling wine and is immediately renamed from secretary to "secretary" by the SFG.

The loud and funny crowd in front of the town hall also makes the children from the neighboring kindergarten happy.

They are immediately integrated into the polonaise.

The first task for Ostenrieder: He has to shoot a two-minute promotional video for the SFG and the city of Schongau and incorporate certain words.

"It's going to be difficult, I know," says Prince Stephan of Peiting happily in view of the animosity that the residents of both places have felt for a long time.

"The fact that the Schongau carnival society is here with me today is of course a very special sign of the good and close friendship that has existed between Peiting and Schongau for centuries."

Ostenrieder doesn't even have to bat an eyelid when this sentence slips from his lips.

A professional, he does it with flying colours.

Even when the actual new mayor, Stephan, takes office and Ostenrieder hugs his Anja as a prince, he scores points.

"That's something different," says the princess with a wink.

Right on top of that there's a prince's waltz right under the Peiting coat of arms in front of the town hall door.

The mood is exuberant.

Peiting's mayor wants to come to the carnival parade in Schongau

Next game: New Prince Peter and new head of town hall Stephan can assign each other tasks.

Stephan gives a candidacy speech for the 2026 mayoral election, demands a vegan butcher shop for Peiting because of the death of butchers in Peiting.

Ostenrieder has to post a group picture with the entire SFG squad on his Instagram account.

Of course, he likes to do it, raises his right arm in a battle cry and shouts along with the "triple power Lech-Au!" Mayor Stephan is allowed to wave down to Anja again from the town hall window.

The final task for Prince Peter: “If I were a prince, I would invite everyone to Buchberger for a cold drink,” challenges Stephan Rößle Ostenrieder.

He accepts with a laugh.

So Peiting's real head of town hall marches loudly away together with the new mayor Stephan, Princess Anja, the court entourage, the guard and the brass band.

The distribution of roles in the carnival procession on Sunday in the old town of Schongau - here, unlike at the Inthroball, Ostenrieder promises his participation - promises to be exciting.
