Damascus countryside - SANA
The Russian Coordination Center in Syria provided food aid to a number of the people of the city of Zabadani in the countryside of Damascus and the affected families who came to it after the earthquake from the stricken governorates, where it was distributed today in the Church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary.
The deputy head of the Russian Coordination Center in Syria, Navy Major General Oleg Egorov, confirmed in a statement to SANA reporter that this aid is a donation from the Russian military in Syria, pointing out that part of it was also sent to the provinces affected by the earthquake.
Egorov pointed out that Russia and Syria are subjected to an economic war, which is a more difficult type than conventional wars, noting the depth of relations between the friendly peoples of Russia and Syria who love peace and justice.
For his part, Archimandrite Ibrahim Daoud, the parish priest in Zabadani and the Church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, valued Russia's standing by Syria during the terrorist war it is exposed to, and the support it provides today to confront the repercussions of the earthquake disaster.
Daoud pointed out that the children of the same Syrian family, Muslims and Christians, despite the difficult economic conditions they live in due to the unjust siege imposed on their country, were united and shared their livelihood, and met the needs of the people whose homes were destroyed due to the earthquake.
It is noteworthy that the Church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary was inaugurated in the city of Zabadani, in the countryside of Damascus, on the 22nd of last month, after it was restored with the help of the Russian Church and the concerted efforts of the people of the city.
