A representative of the Cypriot Foreign Ministry offered condolences to the victims of the earthquake in Syria, during his visit today to the headquarters of the Syrian Embassy in Nicosia, expressing the grief of the government and people of Cyprus for the affliction of the Syrian people and their sympathy with the families of the victims.

The embassy was visited by representatives of political and popular organizations and ambassadors of a number of Arab and foreign countries accredited in Nicosia, including the ambassadors of the Russian Federation, China, Palestine, the Sultanate of Oman, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Cuba, Poland and Serbia, in addition to representatives of the embassies of Iran, Egypt, Jordan, India and Lebanon.

The embassy was also visited by the head of the AKEL Party and a representative of the Green Party, who expressed their condolences and provided humanitarian aid to the embassy to be sent to Syria, in addition to Cypriot citizens and members of the Syrian, Chinese, Russian, Armenian and Palestinian communities in Cyprus.

Murat Zyazikov, Ambassador of the Russian Federation, expressed his deep condolences to Syria and provided humanitarian aid to mitigate the effects of the earthquake. The Armenian Archbishop Khoren Togharmajian and the Bishop of the Orthodox Patriarchate expressed their condolences and provided humanitarian aid.

In turn, the Minister Plenipotentiary, Dr. Ammar Awad, Head of the Syrian Mission in Nicosia, thanked the visitors for their feelings and assistance to the families of the earthquake victims, appreciating the assistance they provided.
