The government's inter-departmental red tide working group announced today (17th) that three red tides were found in Hong Kong waters in the past week, all of which were composed of nocturnal algae that are commonly found in Hong Kong waters and do not contain toxins.

Two of the red tides were discovered by LCSD staff on Monday (13th) at Deep Water Bay Beach on Hong Kong Island and Tung Wan Beach in Cheung Chau.

On the same day, officers of the Marine Department spotted another red tide at Hoi On Road near Rambler Channel.

The three red tides have subsided and no related fish kills have been reported so far.

In fact, these "blue tears" that visit many coasts of Hong Kong every year are formed by a type of algae called nocturnal algae. They usually appear in waters with red tides, which means that the waters there are polluted and nutritious. for them to grow.
