North Korea launched a ballistic missile towards the sea on the eastern coast - this is what South Korean military officials said today (Saturday).
The launch comes against the background of Pyongyang's warnings in response to the military exercises expected to take place in cooperation with the United States and its neighbor South Korea.
Japan also confirmed that they noticed a launch carried out from North Korea.
Pyongyang has launched an unprecedented number of missiles over the past year, including intercontinental ballistic missiles, which could reach any point in the United States.
It also resumed preparations for its first nuclear test since 2017.
A committee on military cooperation between the armies of the United States and South Korea is expected to take place on Wednesday at the Pentagon, in which the defense policy makers of the two countries will participate - according to Seoul's Ministry of Defense.
In addition, joint military exercises are planned in the coming weeks and months.

Last week, North Korea held a night parade to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of its army, which it called "the largest demonstration of the country's nuclear attack capabilities."
At the event, it presented dozens of intercontinental ballistic missiles and other weapons.
It is not clear whether North Korea is really close to the production of the new missile, because in the past the country has also presented unprepared models of missiles in parades.
However, the country moved forward with its ballistic missile program, despite Security Council resolutions and UN sanctions.
