Hollywood star of the 1960s and '70s, actress Stella Stevens, dies at 84

Actress Stella Stevens, known for her roles on the big screen alongside Jerry Lewis and Elvis Presley, has died in Los Angeles at the age of 84 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Stella Stevens, the actress known for her big-screen roles opposite Jerry Lewis and Elvis Presley, died in Los Angeles early Saturday morning after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

She was 84 years old, according to her son, film producer Andrew Stevens.

"She had been in hospice for quite some time going through stage seven Alzheimer's disease," her son told CNN.

"Alzheimer's is an insidious disease that affected not only my mother, but also my grandmother and great-aunt. I hope my mother's work will be remembered for her collaborations with some of the biggest icons in the entertainment industry." Andrew said.

Stella leaves "a legacy of more than 200 film and television titles," according to the Golden Globes obituary.

"In 1960, Stella Stevens won a Golden Globe Award for New Star of the Year for her debut acting role in the musical Say One for Me, starring Bing Crosby, Debbie Reynolds and Robert Wagner," the Globes article reads. Gold.

Stella is survived by her only child and three adult grandchildren, Amelia, Aubrey and Samuel Stevens.
