Petro made that claim during a speech he delivered last week at the inauguration of new ambassadors in Colombia.

The president did not mention the Peruvian Police, but his statements occurred after images of thousands of policemen marching in the center of Lima were released this Thursday, when protests against the government of President Dina Boluarte were taking place, in the same place.

CNN is seeking Petro's reaction to the motion passed by Congress.

For its part, the Foreign Relations Commission of Congress had already approved this Tuesday the "rejection" of the president's statements.
