Justice Minister Yariv Levin was interviewed this evening (Saturday) on the "Central Headquarters" program with Ila Hasson on Channel 13, at the same time as a series of demonstrations are taking place against the legal revolution he is promoting.

In an interview, Levin said that he is determined to complete the legislation.

"I don't think it's right to run a country through threats and dictates of the street. It can be completed with talks, it's possible to reach understandings, but talks like Gantz and Lapid suggested - that won't happen," said Levin.

The Minister of Justice denied the reports that there is tension between him and Prime Minister Netanyahu.

"It's one big fake, part of systematic mind engineering," said Levin, "everything is kosher to put sticks in the wheels of reform."

This week, Levin and Constitution Committee Chair Simcha Rothman clarified that the legislation will continue, despite President Yitzhak Herzog's request to freeze it until the coalition and opposition negotiate.

On Wednesday, opposition leader Yair Lapid demanded from the coalition to halt the promotion of the legal revolution for 60 days to allow President Yitzhak Herzog to establish a presidential committee. Lapid spoke with President Herzog before the speech. On the same day, Rothman decided to withdraw the proposals for the enhancement clause, "Deri Law 2" and the Mash Law, which were supposed to be put to a vote in a preliminary reading in the Knesset Plenum.

According to Rothman and Levin, the removal of the proposals from the agenda does not concern the negotiation attempts, because these laws are not related to the legal reform, and that the promotion of the reform legislation will continue "uninterrupted".

The revolution planned by the government includes a series of significant changes in the legal system, such as a determination that only an expanded composition of the High Court of Justice can invalidate legislation passed by the Knesset. Another step of the revolution, designed to strengthen the government's hand vis-à-vis the court, is the establishment of a superseding clause that will nullify decisions of the High Court by a majority of only 61 Knesset members,

The reform also deals with weakening the power of the legal advisors to the government, so that their position will not bind the government, and with eliminating the reason for reasonableness, which, among other things, significantly limits the court's ability to intervene in the appointment of senior officials.
