Martin and Hans are at odds and the country doctor sees only one option: to say goodbye to his family.
Ellmau - The 16th season of the successful home series "Der Bergdoktor" is coming to an end and of the eight new episodes that ZDF has been showing on Thursdays since December 29th, only one is left.
After "The Way Back" flickered across the screens on ORF a few days ago, fans in this country have to wait until February 23rd.
But what is already clear before the broadcast: The happy ending for Martin Gruber (Hans Sigl, 53) and Co. is missing.
Because of family drama with brother Hans: Bergdoktor Martin Gruber wants to move to New York
At the end of the 15th season, Anne (Ines Lutz, 39) and Franziska (Simone Hanselmann, 43) left the "Bergdoktor" family and even after their departure, Ellmau was extremely dramatic.
Because the revelation that Martin Gruber had a secret relationship with Sonja, the deceased wife of his brother Hans (Heiko Ruprecht, 50), drove a wedge between the two brothers.
Although both Hans and the "Bergdoktor" fans have known about Martin and Sonja's affair for a long time, the Gruberhof boss simply cannot forgive the fact that the two were secret lovers for months.

The Grubers' house blessing is crooked, Martin lives banished from the farm and in his desperation the otherwise optimistic country doctor sees only one solution: He wants to turn his back on Ellmau and move to Franziska in New York.
Daughter Lilli (Ronja Forcher, 26) and Gruber's mother Lisbeth (Monika Baumgartner, 71) try to dissuade him from taking this drastic step - but the mountain doctor cannot be dissuaded from fleeing to the east coast metropolis thousands of kilometers away.
Hans Sigl's secret guest role in "Der Bergdoktor"
Since 2008, Hans Sigl has embodied the title hero Martin Gruber in "Der Bergdoktor".
The exciting life of the country doctor inspires millions of loyal fans with every episode and has made his actor one of the biggest stars of German television.
But what very few people know: the role as the son of Lisbeth Gruber is not Hans Sigl's first Bergdoktor appearance.
Because ten years before he slipped into the white doctor's coat, he was already seen as a taxi driver in the popular series that was still running on Sat.1 at the time and in which Gerhard Lippert, a completely different mountain doctor, was the focus.
Who knows - maybe an extra from the ZDF remake will one day succeed Hans Sigl?

"We need distance": Bergdoktor Martin Gruber says goodbye to his family
For a long time they were a tight-knit team, but in the season finale "The Way Back" mountain doctor Martin Gruber separated from Hans and the rest of his family.
"I wanted to talk to you guys about New York.
I will stay longer than planned”, he tells Lilli and Lisbeth.
"But you're coming back, right?" Lisbeth asks, visibly shocked, but her son only explains dejectedly: "Let's see."

In the big “Bergdoktor” finale, the Grubers shed tears.
Because Martin wants to go to New York indefinitely - much to the chagrin of Lilli and Lisbeth.

It has come to the point that Martin wants to say goodbye to Ellmau and the life they have built up there – a great shock for Lisbeth and Lilli.
"You can't just walk away like that," explains the Gruber family head, stunned.
"Yes mom, I can.
And I have to," he replies sadly, "that with Hans and me has no future.
That doesn't work, you understand. We need distance and time."

While Lisbeth is struggling with her sons' quarrel, Martin boards the plane with his bag packed.
But then everything turns out very differently - because the big "Bergdoktor" season finale ends with tears, arguments and the hospital.
