A bus overturns on a highway in Mexico and reports deaths and injuries

A bus overturned this Sunday on a Mexican highway that connects the states of Puebla and Oaxaca, as confirmed by the Mexican National Guard to Noticias Telemundo.

Reports in the local press indicate that there may be at least 10 deaths and dozens injured by the accident, which occurred for reasons that are still unknown at kilometer 87 of the superhighway between Cuacnolapan (Puebla) and Oaxaca.

The newspaper Milenio puts the balance of victims in the accident at 15 dead and 40 injured, which took place near the city of Tehuacán;

other reports indicate that the passengers could be immigrants.

But this information has not been officially confirmed;

National Guard sources explained to Telemundo News that communication problems in the area of ​​the event are delaying official reports.

The bus came from Oaxaca, according to the newspaper Milenio, and its front part was practically destroyed, although the causes of the accident and details about the passengers of the vehicle are unknown.

The accident in Mexico comes at the end of a week in which at least 40 people were killed when a bus carrying migrants fell off a cliff in Panama, near the Colombian border.

The bus was taking a group of migrants who had crossed the Darien jungle, a dangerous strait on the way from South America to the United States, to the Los Planes shelter.

Some 250,000 migrants arrived in Panama in 2022 walking this dangerous route.

Although the tragedy in Panama is still under investigation, it is presumed that the driver of the vehicle, of Panamanian origin and who also died in the accident, lost control during a maneuver and plunged into the abyss.

According to the Panamanian authorities, among the migrants on board were 22 people from Ecuador, 16 from Haiti, 11 from Venezuela, six from Brazil, two from Cameroon, two from Cuba, one from Nigeria and one from Eritrea.
