A hundred elected officials show their support for Cazeneuve's movement for an "alternative" to the left

The former prime minister wants to carry a “left alternative” to Nupes, to achieve “gathering a majority of French people”, in the first and second rounds of the presidential election.

Bernard Cazeneuve accelerates.

A hundred elected officials - including parliamentarians, presidents of regions or departments - gave their support on Saturday in the

JDD

to the movement of the former prime minister, pleading for

"a left alternative"

capable of

"bringing together a majority of French people »

.

A sort of counter-offer to the Nupes alliance, whose pivotal force remains La France Insoumise.

"Faced with the unprecedented challenges facing us (...), we must more than ever offer a left alternative capable of carrying a project, of assuming responsibility and of bringing together a majority of French people, on the first and in the second round

, ”write the signatories of the tribune.

Among these are the president of the Brittany region Loïg Chesnais-Girard, eight presidents of departmental councils or 17 deputies and senators, mayors and local elected officials.

"Not to create one more party"

Bernard Cazeneuve, who left the PS in 2022 after the Nupes agreement, called in early February for the creation of a

"movement"

to unite leftist tendencies hostile to the alliance, after having already published in September a manifesto for an

“other left”

.

"Neither radicalism, which feeds the confrontation of all against all, nor the overcoming of the right and the left, which drives those who want alternation to despair, offers the path to harmony, compromise and a nation finally calmed down.

In this dangerous game, it is the far right that will come out on top in 2027”

, warn the authors of the forum.

If

"the objective is not to create one more party"

, Mr. Cazeneuve has begun the

"organization phase of a structured movement in the territories"

, explains to AFP the former minister of the five-year term. Holland Clotilde Valter.

This movement, which will allow dual membership with a party, aims to

"build a message, a project, with thematic conventions"

, she adds, deploring the absence of

"proposals"

on the left in the current debate on pension reform.
