Argentina, 1985 and the BAFTA awards: what time and how to see the ceremony in London

2023-02-19T12:30:58.243Z

Santiago Mitre's film, with Ricardo Darín and Peter Lanzani, is competing for best non-English language film.

There are only hours left to find out if

Argentina, 1985

, by Santiago Mitre, wins the BAFTA award for the best film in a non-English language.

The film arrives in London with the momentum that won the Golden Globe, in January, and the Goya, last Saturday.

Santiago Miter and his partner, Dolores Fonzi, Peter Lanzani, and producers Victoria Alonso, Agustina Llambi Campbell and Axel Kuschevatzky traveled to the British capital, for Amazon Studios Javiera Balmaceda and James Farrell, and executive producers Cindy Teperman and Phin Glynn.

The award ceremony for the British Academy of Film and TV Awards will take place at the Royal Festival Hall in London, and will be hosted by actor Richard E. Grant and television presenter Alison Hammond.

The BAFTAs will be officially broadcast by the BBC iPlayer channel, and from Latin America another option is to follow the ceremony through the official @BAFTA accounts on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook.

Where and at what time to see the ceremony

DirecTV has the rights for our country, and it can be seen on the OnDIRECTV channel (201 and 1201 HD) in Argentina, and in Chile, Uruguay, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia, and also by streaming through the DGO platform.

The broadcast is announced to start at 4:00 p.m. (Argentina time).

Paul Mescal, nominated for "Aftersun," poses before entering the party.

For those who are not subscribers to DirectTV, and want to access the transmission, the company indicates that those who are not yet customers can download the app or enter the DGO website, and at the same time enjoy the content offered by DIRECTV at no additional cost during three days.

Argentina, 1985

and the competition

As the main contender in the category is

All Quiet on the Front

, the film that can be seen on Netflix.

The plot takes place on the German front in World War I.

Ricardo Darín and Peter Lanzani in a scene from "Argentina, 1985".

The Quiet Girl

is also set in the past, in 1981. It centers on a girl, Cáit, who is sent away for the summer by her dysfunctional family to live with Seán and Eibhlín Cinnsealach, a couple she has never met.

Slowly, Cáit will discover a new way of living, but also a secret.

She also competes in an adapted script.

The other two BAFTA nominated films are

Corsage

(Belgium, by Marie Kreutzer), about Elizabeth of Austria (Sissi), the First Lady, wife of Emperor Franz Joseph I, who must adopt a strict regimen of fasting and exercise.

She but she rebels.

"All Quiet on the Front", the German film that is the main contender for the Argentine film.

And

Decision to Leave

(South Korea, by Park Chan-wook), about a meticulous detective investigating a murder and falling in love with the victim's widow.

The filmmaker is also competing in the best direction category.

The leading film, in number of nominations for this installment, is

All Quiet on the Front

, from Netflix, the German production that has 14 nominations, and as we already said, competes with

Argentina, 1985

 for best non-English language film.

Other nominations include best film, director, adapted screenplay and supporting actor.

The other 9 are… all so-called techniques.

"The spirits of the island" has 10 nominations for tonight's awards.

All Quiet on the Front arrives at the installment equaling the number of nominations Ang Lee's

The Tiger and the Dragon

(2000) had had

for a non-English language film, and second overall behind

Gandhi

(1982). and

Atonement, Desire, and Sin

(2007), which scored 16 each.

Island Spirits

and

Everything Everywhere at the same time

have 10 nominations.

And it is estimated that the award for best film will be settled between these two titles.

Jamie Lee Curtis and Michelle Yeoh, both nominees, for "Everything Everywhere at the Same Time."

Photo Diamond Films

Baz Luhrmann's Elvis

came close, with 9 nominations, including film and photography,

Tár

has 5 (film, directing, leading actress for Cate Blanchett, original screenplay and sound), as well as

Aftersun

,

Batman

,

Good Luck, Big Leo

,

Top Gun: Maverick

and

The Whale

have four.

For better direction, if it's not won by Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (the Daniels, as they're known), the filmmakers of

Everything Everywhere at the Same Time , it could be Todd Field's (

Tár

)

opportunity .

Everything will depend on which title wins best film.

Cate Blanchett in a scene from "Tár".

She wins, or Michelle Yeoh.

UIP photo

Cate Blanchett or Michelle Yeoh (

Everything everywhere at the same time

) will take the statuette for best leading actress, which in the male category would have Colin Farrell (

The spirits of the island

) as a probable winner.

This film, if it doesn't win best picture, could take best British film.

Next, all the nominees in the 25 categories.
