An oil tanker in the Arabian Sea was the target of a drone attack last week.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has now blamed Iran.
"Iran's aggressions don't stop," Netanyahu said in Jerusalem.
"We do everything - and will do everything - to defend our people, and we react vigorously to the attacks against us." With the attack on the tanker, Iran violated international freedom of navigation.
As several media reported, the ship - flying the Liberian flag - was only slightly damaged in the drone attack on February 10 and was able to continue sailing;
the crew was also uninjured.
The tanker belonged to an international company headed by Israeli businessman Ejal Ofer.
There have been repeated attacks on Israeli-owned freighters in the region.
Israel always blames the leadership in Tehran, both countries are enemies.
In November, for example, an oil tanker was attacked by a drone off the coast of Oman.
An Israeli official then accused Iran of efforts to "destabilize the region."
Alleged Israeli attack on Syria
The allegations from Jerusalem come hours after a suspected Israeli attack on the Syrian capital Damascus that killed several people.
Israel has carried out hundreds of these airstrikes in recent years, but rarely speaks out.
The Syrian government of ruler Bashar al-Assad is supported militarily by Iran and Hezbollah.
Jerusalem always insists that it will not allow Iran to extend its influence to Israel's borders.
The conflict between Israel and Iran is considered a shadow war.
