Huge chaos at "RTL Aktuell": In one edition of the news format, one glitch followed the next.
The broadcaster finally drew consequences.
Cologne – Minor glitches and glitches are not that uncommon, especially in live broadcasts, and are often not noticed.
However, the scenes that took place on Tuesday evening (February 14) in the main edition of "RTL Aktuell" (at 6.45 p.m.) resembled a total television disaster: almost nothing worked as the Cologne broadcaster had actually imagined.

Around 600,000 (market share of 16.6 percent) watched the Tuesday edition of "RTL Aktuell" at 6:45 p.m. and witnessed live how many things can go wrong in a news broadcast: The technology went on strike - so no clips could be shown.
In this format, however, they are an integral part of the process, after all, current content is conveyed there in expressive images.

An unpleasant situation for the newscasters Maik Meuser (47) and Ulrike von der Groeben (65): They tried to cover up the IT disaster and changed their position in the studio several times in the hope of catching an LED screen after all showed the relevant posts. But in vain: the director finally stopped the glitched edition after only the short message clip could be played.
Breakdown at "RTL Aktuell" not an isolated case
A similar incident occurred on "RTL Aktuell" on July 11, 2021: At that time, the power went out in the studio, but thanks to an emergency generator, Peter Kloeppel (64) was able to stay on the air live - albeit in the dark.
But the crisis-tested newscaster was not discouraged.
He promptly illuminated himself with the light from his smartphone and simply continued to moderate.

RTL then apologized on Twitter for the technical glitch: "We're sorry.
A lot went wrong at 'RTL Aktuell' today.
IT probably didn't like us on Valentine's Day.
Luckily everything is fixed again.

In the meantime, RTL has removed the troubled Tuesday edition from its streaming offer.
A spokeswoman told
t-online.de
that the program "due to the technical errors could not offer the information content" expected from "RTL Aktuell".
Another RTL presenter once experienced an embarrassing breakdown: Katja Burkard (57) appeared on the red carpet with two right shoes.
