In the presence of a crowd of clergy and worshipers, Archbishop Claudio Gugerotti, Dean of the Department of Eastern Churches in Vatican City, and the papal ambassador in Damascus, Cardinal Mario Zenari, attended the Divine Liturgy, which was presided over by Archbishop George Masri, pastor of the Melkite Greek Catholic Diocese of Aleppo, in Our Lady's Cathedral in Old Aleppo, with the intention of the souls of the earthquake victims and the healing of wounded.
In a statement to reporters, Gugerotti said: “I convey to you today the blessing and love of His Holiness Pope Francis in light of this ordeal that befell you, calling for prayer because our hope is great in God, and we are certain that the Syrian people, as they faced many difficulties and overcame them, will emerge from the consequences of the devastating earthquake as well.” .
Gugerotti added, "We join you in our prayers and stand by your side under the directives of His Holiness the Pope, conveying to you the message of hope that illuminates our days in light of all difficulties."
The Divine Liturgy was concluded with the rank of funeral for the souls of the martyrs of the devastating earthquake, the healing of the wounded, and condolence to those affected.
