Cosquín Rock: The best of national rock and trap rumbled in the Cordoba mountains

2023-02-19T19:01:10.009Z

The festival, with more than 100,000 people, offered a wide selection for all tastes: from Gieco and Juanse, through No te va gustar, to trap exponents like Thunder.

The climatic changes that occurred throughout the country near the weekend did not affect

the successful start of Cosquín Rock 2023 at Santa María de Punilla, Córdoba

during its first day on Saturday, which included great consecrated as to new values of rock and its derivatives, including cumbia and rap.

The great challenge of its organizers?

Sound diversity: they got it.

With tickets completely sold out in advance -there were 100,000 people-, the festival that began 23 years ago in the Plaza de Cosquín and moved to the immense airfield closest to Villa Carlos Paz than to the city of its origins -with the idea of holding a kind of Argentine Woodstock-, became a summer classic...

With sold out tickets, there were 100 thousand people.

An indispensable classic that, for the occasion, on its first day in 2023, in turn, attracted a diversity of audiences both from across the territory: a multitude of fans who came from neighboring countries such as Uruguay

, Paraguay, Chile and even Bolivia

, despite the fact that by now the brand has spread throughout the region and has even crossed the Atlantic.

Young and not so young, entire families and groups of friends organized themselves, as they do every February, to arrive in the mountain town, even up to two days in advance to enjoy their previous "rituals".

Various rites: camping on the banks of the river or renting a room of the many little houses that made a space in some room in order to earn a few mangoes during the weekend, which precisely coincides with Carnival.

From early hours of Saturday, on the route it could be observed from early hours of Saturday improvised grills were observed roasting chorizos or pieces of emptiness to prepare the classic choripanes and vacipan, very much in the soccer style but, for that matter, with a flavor of rock from the country.

Some,

with the classic fernet from one hand to another.

Others, with melancia: cut melon and loaded with red wine with ice: typical of the mountain area in summer This business adventure that attracts thousands and thousands, and that comes out like a glove to its manager José Palazzo, continues to be a resounding success, to such an extent that this weekend the property is even bigger than in previous years.

Sing, dance, eat and drink

Dozens of food and drink stalls abounded along the sides of the property.

The prices ranged between two thousand and three thousand pesos: tenderloin sandwiches, hamburgers with fries or vegan food.

There was something for all tastes.

In addition, near the center of the airfield, they installed a huge wardrobe for the hordes that filled the space (something never seen before) and had been queuing since mid-afternoon to leave their belongings in good hands.

The music, what mattered most Several stages with different proposals were part of the nature of this unique bet, whose names were named as follows:

North, South, Paraguay, Mountain, Boomerang and the Blues House.

Precisely in the latter mentioned, the first jolt was

surprisingly provided by the daughter of La Renga's bassist

, in an auspicious debut.

It's about Wayra, a young blonde blouse, whose family heritage is marked to the surface

.

Hers is a rescue of the great bluesies of yesteryear, plus some of her own songs, of which she announced that they will be part of her first record label.

Although the big surprise came at the precise moment that the young woman, dressed in tight black leather and dark platform boots, announced the unexpected and celebrated: “I invite those who have a lot to do with who I am.

My dad Tete and my uncle Tanque”.

After the applause received, it was the turn of the song If two plus two gave three, by La Renga.

Undoubtedly, the potential of the young woman was a great novelty in the first hours of the festival.

A pure trap, a thunderous Thunder.

The show marathon

On the north side, the first to convene a large audience were the members of

Los Jokers.

Well, several bands of the so-called "rock Stone" followed one another on the same tables.

Facundo Soto

, with an electroacoustic guitar hanging, in addition to having the sound power behind him through his back, released great hits in the history of the La Plata band, including Pobre tipo (

dedicated

to a former guitarist of the group),

Espejo roto

(with its controversial video of a large woman consuming drugs) or

Down

, among others.

Among the public, some chanted incessantly, others talked or told their stories: how they got to the Sierras de Córdoba.

Such was the case of

a group of girls who narrated that they arrived in a cereal truck belonging to an uncle of one of them.

"I asked my uncle to bring us from Río Cuarto," said Adrián.

“I asked my uncle Adrián to bring us from Río Cuarto because it was on the way.

He had to go to Villa Carlos Paz.

We set up a tent in the campsite facing the river, near here

”, Giselle, only 19 years old, enthused.

A whole first adventure for these young women who call themselves rockers by direct inheritance from their parents.

A few meters away, Juan Cruz, 36, also asked for his voice to add his own.

He said he had participated in

the first Cosquín Rock that took place in Plaza Próspero Molina

, before arriving in this area of La Docta.

In other words, a true pioneer.

“I am with my friends, but we already got lost.

Anyway, we stopped at the house of Ana Gallardo, a well-known lady here.

She charges us three thousand pesos a night;

The good thing is that we are only four blocks from here ”, highlights the tall boy, with a huge glass of Quilmes beer in one of his hands.

Rappers who dare anything Unlike previous grids in the history of this now mythical festival, this time the prominence of young rap artists was no less on its first date.

Skay Beilinson has already become a classic in the saws.

The South stage as well as the Boomerangron, for example,

was the epicenter of great young figures who contributed great shows

.

There were locals and foreigners who received ovations.

The German is not just any rapper.

And he endlessly tours the world with earned prestige.

He is a Mexican protester who makes the hairs stand on end with his lyrics to the extreme, emphasizing social criticism.

She sported a huge tattoo on the side of her neck and an open white camisole, with her bare torso.

Within his curriculum, he has participated in creations

with the famous Bizarrap.

Although the one who received the greatest applause in the midst of so much flow and movement during the day turned out to be

Thunder

from Buenos Aires .

"From Commune 4 of La Boca, to the world", it was planted from the outset.

He wore a light blue piluso-style hat and a glove on his left hand to hold the microphone tightly.

Rap, with splashes of funk

and the occasional Latin rhythm marked the pulse of her lyrics, which also included reflections on social issues.

“Success is not without you.

Without an audience there are no artists ”, he confided to his people who applauded him insistently.

Then it was the turn of one of his flagship songs:

Mamichula

, which he referred to as "the one that changed my life."

Saborrrrrrrrrrrrrrr: Delio Valdez made everyone dance.

With great mountains in the background On the tables of the only stage that added to its postcard the beautiful mountains in the background, exciting moments happened: visceral rock with deep memories, the best international pop and the longest dance time on Saturday because of cumbia.

In her second concert in the country, the North American artist with Italian roots, LP,

probably contributed one of the most pleasant concerts from the sound side

, attracting diversities with her androgynous image, her peculiar messages, a cuatro in her hand and an impeccable sound. .

He slipped hits that echo on the planet and that were his allies so that a young audience, modern for that matter, accompanied his lyrics in English.

Many girls and boys wore glitter on her faces, in the same way that is usually seen at large international festivals in Buenos Aires.

A while before, it was

La Delio Valdez who achieved constant dancing among those present

through her tropical music, which they consider contains contributions from different Latin American countries.

La Delio Valdez: tropical music to the palo.

Likewise, they did not overlook the issue of the original peoples through devil masks that

the singer Black Rodríguez Méndez wore on his face

, alluding to the carnivals of the original peoples in carnival.

Ivonne, for her part, was in charge of glamor and blockbuster songs that led this tropical music orchestra to the podium of the most popular today.

Not so out of tune with the proposal of the Argentines and

the Colombian Ivonne, the visit of Lila Dows also contributed that Latin American air that characterizes her so much

.

They were versions of classics such as Manu Chao's Clandestino, among many others.

On the other hand, after nine at night, the postcard was totally different.

The return of Catupecu Machu generated expectation in the public in the interior of the country

.

The thing about Fernando Ruíz Díaz's band, who reformed the band for his return to the big stages (unusually he has two drummers, one of them is Abril Sosa, who returned after many years), had to do with melancholy.

The memory and evocation of his brother was a constant.

It is clear that it is still a healing process that is difficult for him to heal completely.

For example, a video of the group showed the silhouette of a bald person (his brother was bald) raising his arms to the sky before the immensity of a lunar eclipse.

Once again, You're not going to like it, refuted his name.

Songs like

Perfect Chromosomes, Plan B: Longing for Satisfaction

or And what I want is for you to tread without the ground made Cordovans and visitors delirious.

"Cosquín Rock, up to the mountain, always", was his great slogan.

In addition, the musician stressed that her daughter had a birthday that night and that she accompanied her to Cosquín Rock for the first time.

Precious reason for celebration that included a smile on the face of the Argentine singer-songwriter.

the rock of the north

Both in the afternoon and at night, the largest stage set to the north became the one that attracted the most attention from the human masses.

It was difficult to get a close look at the concerts that were taking place because people were very close, hand to hand so as not to lose any detail of the groups that were the highlights of the grid.

The Uruguayans from No Te Va Gustar

appealed to a concert almost by heart, with their songs that have been on the radio for years, and that are so acclaimed mainly by the female audience.

However, unlike what happens when they play in stadiums in Buenos Aires, at the Aerodrome the fanaticism on the part of boys and girls was equal: everyone knew their lyrics, everyone chanted them in unison.

Hours later, when it cooled down considerably, the main numbers of the day arrived.

Rock in the mountains, great program.

Skay Beilinson has already become a classic of classics at this mountain festival.

His songs as a soloist, such as El joven de Paternal or Oda a la sin nombre are already recognized by all, although his list did not lack classic Ricoteros such as El pibe

de los astilleros

or

Criminal mambo.

Throughout

their sets there were no emotions on the surface.

For the most part, the public was prepared to observe in great detail the flashes of the musician in the guitar solos through his Telecaster.

Skay wore a wide-brimmed pale hat with a black band.

AND

he cold, which at that time of night was felt more harshly, did not intimidate the former Patricio Rey and his Redonditos de Ricota: he was in a short shirt, pending his viola and generating surround sounds.

Of course he did it with wisdom and determination.

Although despite his efforts, he did not get the fervor of the people that any of the former Redondos usually generate when they go on stage.

The same thing happened when it was the turn of Divided:

classics like Caressing the rough or Spaghetti of rock and Ala Delta, some reference to the original peoples and even resorting to the Sumo stage with La rubia tarada did not cause the expected fervor.

It probably had to do with the fact that people, mostly over 35 years of age, needed to watch a powerful concert carefully through La aplanadora del rock, which did not fail in power but, unusually, its sound did not accompany so many expectations.

The Jokers.

It was strange for being such a picky group in that sense.

The highs dominated throughout his entire list of songs and at times his was a ball of sound.

The golden brooch

After midnight and well into the early morning, the huge property was freezing cold.

The fatigue of the public, in the midst of so much bustle that included for hours touring the venue from one side to the other so as not to miss out on luxurious details, probably caused it to appear static with the previous recitals.

Despite that, Juanse arrived, who was in charge of twisting their arm to pure “primitive” rock & roll, good vibes and even contagious humor.

The former Ratones Paranoico appealed to a tour of the greatest hits of the group with which he achieved fame.

But for the occasion he offered great songs from the Cemento era or from his first steps to fame, from when Juanse proposed a mix between rolingo music with the punk of the Sex Pistols.

It should be noted that the list chosen to crown its closure in the mountains with glory reactivated the entire public present.

Although wisely, the musician who is still celebrating the sixty years of his life, hit the nail on the head accompanied by friends who followed one another in different songs.

On stage were Celeste Carballo (

Dirty star

and

Route 66

), Junior from La 25 (

I already died

), León Gieco (

The ghost

and

Think about nothing

, Enlace (Ale Kuz from El Bordo), and Mateo Sujatovich (

La nave

).

Unlike the rest of his colleagues who came up before him, Gutiérrez, neither slow nor lazy, appealed to constant humor.

A humor that infected the crowd and gave them completely to let themselves be carried away by the wise man of Argentine rock, the one

blessed by greats like Charly García or the remembered Luis Alberto Spinetta or Pappo Naopitano.

His jokes were great in different stretches of the early morning.

"This is like going to queue to collect retirement

," she commented before the guests.

Or at another time she spoke to the public in the following way: “Are you okay?

They are not going to make me spend on hearing aids or orthopedic chairs, ”she said smiling.

At a certain moment, in keeping with another time of his in which performances were common, almost as if they were choreographies,

the great "Leader"

, as he is nicknamed within the scene, ran on a catwalk that was between the bulk of the public, he took off his belt and raised the shirt of the Argentine team showing his belly to the public, without any shame.

He even did some pirouettes already lying on the boards.

Juanse was funny, auspicious and, above all, he made it clear that the Patria Stone, the same one that happened during part of the afternoon on that same stage, and of which he is a precursor, is still alive and kicking.

Without a doubt, the best of Saturday was towards the end of the night.

And Juanse Gutiérrez was the great protagonist of it.
