Numerous demonstrations were registered on Saturday as part of the security conference in Munich.

Sometimes the police had to intervene.

Munich – The security conference is taking place in Munich again this year – and the world political view is directed towards the state capital of Bavaria.

Numerous heated topics dominate the politicians' meeting, above all, of course, the Ukraine war - but the growing tensions between the USA and China are also a dominant topic.

So it's no wonder that there are numerous protests and demonstrations in Munich in this mixed situation.

On Sunday, February 19th, the police will draw a first conclusion about the events of the meeting on Saturday, February 18th.

Demo events around the Siko in Munich: the police must intervene

As part of the 59th Munich Security Conference, the police took stock of more than ten meetings in the state capital - and stated that the rallies were "peaceful and with only minor security disruptions".

With the background noise, the officials probably mean the situation around an AfD meeting on Karl-Stützel-Platz in Maxvorstadt, to which around 250 people gathered.

And 300 counter-demonstrators.

These were classified by the police as an undeclared gathering.

In addition, parts of this assembly acted "verbally aggressively" on the AfD assembly, according to the police press report.

In order to prevent the two groups from meeting, the police, according to their own statements, acted resolutely: "Due to the consistent intervention of the police forces, a meeting of the participants, e.g.

by direct coercion by pushing and pressing," it says.

Largely peaceful demos on the fringes of the Munich Security Conference

According to the police, around 10,000 people gathered at Königsplatz from 1 p.m. for the meeting of the “Munich Stands Up” alliance.

In the afternoon, the demo participants marched through Maxvorstadt and ended back at Königsplatz for the final rally at 6 p.m.

Participants of the action alliance against the Munich Security Conference met at the Munich Stachus.

According to the police, around 2,400 people took part in the peak.

"At the same time, as previously announced, a human chain was formed through the pedestrian zone from Stachus to Marienplatz during this meeting," writes the police.

300 people took part.

Both assemblies finally met at Marienplatz for the final rally - it ended around 5 p.m.

On Sunday, February 19, there will be other, smaller demonstrations.

Among other things, a protest rally against the Iranian government and a "commemorative rally on the 3rd anniversary of the right-wing attack in Hanau" have been registered.
