The Palestinians in the neighborhoods of Issawiya, Jabal Mukabar, Silwan and Shuafat blocked roads using tires, bezants and garbage cans. This follows a general strike that was announced in these neighborhoods. The police said that a confrontation broke out between the protesters and residents who tried to leave their homes

Demonstrations began this morning (Sunday) in a number of neighborhoods in East Jerusalem, including Issawiya, Jabal Mukaber, Silwan and Shuafat, where Palestinian organizations announced a general strike, and called on the residents of the neighborhood not to come to work in the west of the city.

During the demonstrations, Palestinians blocked the roads with tires, bezants and garbage cans.

In response to this, the police acted on the spot to open the roadblocks and disperse the protesters.

In addition, the police said that they intervened in a fight that developed in the neighborhoods between the protesters and residents who were trying to go to work and were disturbed by them.

"The criminals who are blocking the neighborhoods are instigators, are acting against the law and want anarchy in the East and we must not allow them to do that," the police said.

"Of course, the collective must be separated from those criminals, but the Israel Police must show a hard hand and zero tolerance towards those lawbreakers and the operation will continue."

Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gabir said in response to the blockade of the neighborhoods in East Jerusalem: "I instructed the police to continue the 'concentration of effort' operation in East Jerusalem. The police have been working since the early hours of the morning to remove the blockades - and I greatly appreciated the police and fighters."

Last week, Maj. Sergeant Asil Suaed, 22 years old, was killed by a civilian security guard during an attack at the Shuafat checkpoint, while inspecting a bus.

The terrorist, 13 years old from Shoafat, was shot and slightly wounded.

Two hours earlier, a 17-year-old was slightly injured in a stabbing attack in the Old City by a 14-year-old boy from the neighborhood, who threw the knife and fled the scene.

A few minutes later he was caught and arrested.
