At about 4:40 this morning, a fire broke out in a two-storey village house in Sheung Che Village, Fan Kam Road, Pat Heung, Yuen Long. It was reported that someone was trapped in the attic of the village house. An injured person who was trapped in the fire unit was rescued and sent to North District Hospital and Tai Po Nethersole Hospital by ambulance respectively. The news on the scene said that the two rescued were mother and child.
In addition, a dog in the unit was suspected to be baked to death by thick smoke and was carried out by firefighters. During the firefighting, two firefighters suffered burns on their backs and hands. They were sent to the hospital by ambulance for treatment. The firefighters are investigating the cause of the fire.
When the firefighters arrived, they could not reach the attic through the house to rescue people because of the fire, so they built an iron ladder inside the house to enter the house and rescued a mother and child.
According to on-site news, the female victim is a single mother, and her father is an original resident who lives in another part of the same village.
The female victim moved to Shangche Village with a pair of children in her early years and raised a Tang dog.
A pair of children stay overnight at the grandfather's house from time to time. Today, the daughter escaped by staying overnight at the grandfather's house.
Neighbors described the basement of the village house as "a mess", believed to be used for storing sundries. Explosions were heard from the basement and the attic when the incident happened.
