Chaos over the skies of Europe: The German airline giant Lufthansa announced the cancellation of approximately 1,300 flights on Friday, after the large "Verdi" labor organization announced a warning strike as part of a labor dispute.
The strike will affect seven airports across Germany, including Munich, Frankfurt, Munich and Hamburg.
Lufthansa, Europe's largest airline, has announced that it will stop all operations in Munich and Frankfurt, the company's two largest hubs.
"We deeply regret the tremendous impact this warning strike will have, at the expense of our passengers. We are not a party to this dispute and have no position of influence or bargaining, and even so, our passengers will be severely affected," said Michael Nigman, chairman of the board of directors of airline.
The strike is expected to result in the total cancellation of approximately 2,340 flights, mainly those departing or landing at the airports where the strike will take place.
Nearly 300,000 passengers are expected to be affected by the strike.
Lufthansa offered its passengers alternative onward flights and the possibility of rescheduling a trip on Germany's train services at a reduced cost.
Last week, the German company canceled dozens of flights following a serious malfunction in the company's computer system, apparently due to damage to an optical cable that was used by the Lufthansa offices and was damaged during renovation work.
