This week the Kiryat Ono City Council approved the proposal of the mayor and holder of the education portfolio, Ron Malka, to name the new school in the Neat Ariel Sharon neighborhood after the late Rona Ramon, who was born and raised in Kiryat Ono and died of cancer in 2018. This is a
home An elementary school that will initially include 12 classrooms equipped with advanced equipment and adapted for grades 1-6, administrative offices, laboratory rooms, science, computer and technology classrooms, discussion rooms, a library, an open field for basketball games and an indoor field for soccer.
In the future, 12 more classrooms and a closed sports hall will be built.

Israel Gal, Mayor: "The late Rona Ramon was larger than life and after losing her husband, Ilan Ramon, who perished in the Columbia space shuttle disaster, and her son, Asaf, who was killed in an army pilot accident, she continued to work for Israeli society and to promote youth throughout the country .
Rona founded the Ramon Foundation, which aims to impart "academic excellence, social leadership and groundbreaking courage" to the young Israeli generation and served as an inspiration to many in revealing her tragic personal story and dealing with it.
On Independence Day 2016 she was chosen to carry a torch.

In the process of choosing the name for the new school, it was clear to us that we would like to choose the name of a pioneering woman. The fact that the late Rona was a graduate of Ben Zvi High School who was educated in our city added to the decision an aspect of closing a circle and a sense of pride that she is a daughter of our city.
Rona, born in Kiryat Ono, is an inspiring figure who chose to perpetuate the legacy of the late Ilan and Assaf not by focusing on the loss but on building a better future. She represents for all of us the beautiful Israeliness and taught us that even the sky is not the limit!".
