Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu tonight (between Sunday and Monday) asked for an extension in his answer to the High Court, saying that the appeal to prosecutor Gali Beharev Miara is currently being considered.

Netanyahu's answer is submitted separately after he announced that he does not accept the position of ombudsman, among other things, on the prohibition to engage in legal initiatives at all.

Netanyahu's appeal comes after earlier today Beharve Miara announced that she allows him to act to calm the spirits in regards to the legal reform, but not to engage in software.

In the letter sent today by the deputy to the ombudsman, attorney Gil Limon, it is written: "Public statements by the Prime Minister regarding the maintenance of public order and the calming of spirits among the public, are not within the scope of the areas to which the fixed restrictions in the conflict of interest settlement apply."

In the conflict of interest settlement, it is further established that in any situation where the prime minister is in a conflict of interest and is required to exercise his powers, he must transfer them to another minister who will fill his place.

This is what the prime minister used to do in the past.

To the extent that, in his opinion, it becomes necessary to carry out an action that he is prevented from carrying out, it is his responsibility to pass it on to one of the government ministers.

Netanyahu referred to the letter in a speech at the conference of presidents of Jewish organizations in the USA. "You may not have noticed, but Israel is now in the midst of a legal reform.

I wanted to talk to you at length about this issue and explain to you why you don't need to worry.

For now, I'm prevented from doing so because I'm forbidden to talk about it."

Netanyahu added: "I'm not making this up, I'm forbidden to talk about it. After all, who am I? I'm just the prime minister of Israel. What can I say about this thing that divides our people? It's crazy."

As you may recall, the Supreme Court ruled in 2021 that a "settlement of their conflict of interest" must be established before Netanyahu can begin the task of forming the 35th government, despite the indictments that were filed against him at the time.
