An inmate of the security custody in Brandenburg managed to escape in downtown Berlin.
Police are using a photo to locate a convicted sex offender.
Berlin – The police in Berlin and Brandenburg have been looking for a 64-year-old since Wednesday (February 15).
The man had escaped his companions in downtown Berlin on the toilet in a Berlin shopping center.
"When he went to the toilet, he was unsupervised for a short moment and used this opportunity to escape," said the Brandenburg Ministry of Justice on Friday.
The man was convicted of manslaughter and sex crimes.
After serving his prison sentence, the 64-year-old has been in preventive custody in Brandenburg an der Havel since 2017.

The 64-year-old was sentenced in 2004 by a court to 15 years in prison and subsequent preventive detention.

Safeguarding: At least four exits planned per year
During the preventive detention, the 64-year-old was allowed four exits per year under supervision, according to the Brandenburg Ministry of Justice.
"In its judgment of May 4, 2011, the Federal Constitutional Court emphasized that statements can only be omitted 'if, despite the supervision of the detainee, they lead to absolutely irresponsible dangers'", the Ministry of Justice explains in a press release.
A so-called criminal prognostic report by an external expert in April 2022 also came to the conclusion that there were “no concerns about going out accompanied by prison staff”.
According to the Ministry of Justice, the 64-year-old wanted to go to a shop for his leisure time on Wednesday when he went to Berlin for several hours.
