Two South Florida religious schools are investigating "racially insensitive comments or gestures" allegedly made during a high school football game Wednesday, according to a joint statement from the Archdiocese of Miami and Scheck Hillel Community School.
According to the joint statement, a "physical altercation" occurred after the game played at Scheck Hillel Community School, a Jewish private school near North Miami Beach, against Archbishop Coleman Carroll High School.
Archbishop Coleman is a school of the Archdiocese of Miami located in the community of Hammocks.
“It is alleged that Archbishop Coleman Carroll students may have made racially insensitive comments or gestures early in the incident, although both schools are still completing their initial investigation,” the joint statement said.
The schools indicated that they "will take appropriate action with the students involved."
The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) was informed of the incident, according to the joint statement.
“The rising tide of anti-Semitism in South Florida and around the world is a serious problem, and we deplore any and all expressions of anti-Semitism and hate,” the Greater Miami Jewish Federation said in a statement about the incident.

According to an alleged joint letter to parents from both schools obtained by the Jewish Federation, "spectators rushed onto the field immediately after the game," in response to the alleged racial incident.
"An altercation between spectators and players then ensued. One spectator was injured and received appropriate medical attention," the letter reads.
"The Archdiocese of Miami and Scheck Hillel have zero tolerance for any type of aggressive language and behavior, anti-Semitism or hatred of any kind. We are grateful for the faculty of both schools, who handled the situation immediately with care and concern for the students. ", assured the schools in their joint statement.
"We will work in partnership with Scheck Hillel to support them in every way possible and to make sure that their students and families, and all Jews in Miami-Dade County, feel safe living openly as proud Jews," the statement said. the Jewish Federation.
