A 22-year-old from Poland claims she has "proof" that she is Madeleine McCann, the British girl who disappeared 16 years ago during a family holiday in Portugal.
The young woman, Julia Wendel, who became viral on social media following the publication of the statements, claimed this week that she was abused during her childhood by a German pedophile, who was the main suspect in the case of the girl's disappearance.
She also claimed that McCann's family contacted her to perform a DNA test to check the compatibility.
This is not the first time that young women have claimed online that they are Madeleine McCann.
In 2021 and 2019, several girls claimed online that they were Madeleine.
In 2017, a student went viral after saying she had evidence that she was the missing Madeleine.

Two years ago, a young woman on TikTok went viral after claiming that she might be Madeleine.
Her video garnered more than four million views.
It opens with the headline "My friends joke I'm Madeleine McCain".
It was then claimed that the girl in the video was staying in the area of the Praia de Luz resort, where three-year-old Madeleine disappeared, at the time of her disappearance.
The video ends with a picture of Madeleine and a picture of the same girl as a child - and the similarity between the two is clear: Madeleine had an eye defect called a coloboma - a rare congenital crack in one of the parts of the eye;
The girl in the video also seems to have a similar defect.

In another video, the same girl claimed that she had an apartment in Praia de Luz, where her family used to go since she was a little girl.
The creator of the video also claims that she is Madeleine's age, and when she was younger, her parents were stopped at an airport and asked to prove that she was not the missing girl.
In other videos, girls uploaded pictures of themselves as children, then compared the picture to Madeleine's.
In one of them, the creator uploaded a childhood photo of herself and wrote that many think she is Madeleine.
In the video she asks the viewers to express their opinion.
Another video included pictures for comparison before it was written that the creator was "accused" of being the missing girl, and that she had to "prove to the police that I am not Madeleine".

A video uploaded in 2017 went viral after a student named Harriet Brooks in England uploaded screenshots of her group chat saying she was Madeleine McCann.
In the video titled "When you can't leave the house because everyone recognizes you as Madeleine McCann".
Brooks sent a message to her friends claiming: "Okay guys. I don't usually believe in conspiracy theories, but I really think I'm Madeleine McCann."
Then she added proof - childhood photos of her compared to Madeleine's, and placement of sweet spots in similar areas.
Brooks added and claimed: "I'm Madeleine McCann and I don't know what to do with myself." She then claimed that it was a joke ("I love the reactions of the people, it feels like they took you seriously").
