The Gani Tikva transport hackathon has come to an end and we can say that there is hope on the way. The venture chosen in first place: CycleIt, the brainchild of six boys, which offers a student pick-up app

The Kathon initiative comes to propose and initiate workable solutions to transportation problems through technological tools and entrepreneurship.

The catathon took place under the leadership of the local council Gani Tikva and under the auspices of the technology giant Yango, Ford's research center, City Car and other partners from the business and public sector.

The contestants were divided into groups, some of them were even multi-generational, combining high school and middle school students with residents and senior citizens.

The best minds gathered for two days of professional competition, to which the leading companies in the economy sent representatives who accompanied the teams as mentors and some as judges during the announcement of the winning team.

Among the companies and organizations we can name: Ford Research Center in Israel, Waze, City Car, Ayalon Routes, Route 6, Mobi, VIA, the National Public Transportation Authority, Israel 2050 Initiative, Bar-Ilan University and more.

The three winning projects point to the potential of Gani Tikva as a walkable city.

The projects rely on the use of existing resources with an emphasis on the sidewalks throughout the settlement while harnessing human capital and the community.

The winning group came up with a solution in which the youth, as part of social involvement, will be trained to ride on a dedicated tricycle using an application that reports in real time to parents about the students' arrival at the educational frameworks.

This is initially an initial pilot that will be carried out on Derech Hayam street crossing Gani Tikva from east to west, where there is an existing bike path that passes through two elementary schools, where over 1,500 students study and an educational district that includes a middle school and a high school.

Lizzie Delriche, head of the Gani Tikva council: "The connection of the residents and the community that lives in the settlement to the event produced creative initiatives that we will integrate into the official work plan. Gani Tikva will continue to be a fertile ground for encouraging social, valuable and innovative ventures. I am proud of the residents who chose to be involved in doing things for the community, and especially To see a wide variety of students, parents and senior citizens in a special multi-generational meeting, consolidating, teaching and challenging. The hackathon is not in place of the authority's actions in front of the government ministries to take care of the council's infrastructure. But in the absence of immediate solutions, we decided to initiate a prize-bearing hackathon competition with many partners I hope that the Minister of Transportation, Miri Regev, will see us as an investment and not just an expense. Gani Tikva is the heart of the Ono Valley, and we are waiting and looking forward to the cooperation with her."
