On Thursday, the President of the United States, Joe Biden, admitted that the three balloons shot down by American fighter jets were not used for espionage, and were apparently intended for other purposes.
Biden said the US intelligence community's assessment is that the objects were likely linked to private companies or research institutions.
However, Biden clarified that he does not apologize for dropping the balloons, and that his country was protecting sensitive sites.
"If any objects pose a threat to the Americans, we will shoot them down as well," added the President of the United States.
