'I'm not a model and I never will': Selena Gomez's scathing response to criticism about her weight

2023-02-20T16:13:31.287Z

During a live on TikTok, Selena Gomez explained that her weight fluctuations were due to her lupus, the autoimmune disease from which she suffers. The actress took the opportunity to reframe the critics of her body.

She keeps repeating it: she has nothing to do with comments on her physique.

Selena Gomez spoke for the umpteenth time on this subject, and without language, during a live broadcast on her TikTok account on Thursday, February 16.

The American explained to her 46 million subscribers that her fluctuating weight gain and loss were linked to the drug she takes to fight her lupus, the autoimmune disease she was diagnosed with in 2013. I take it, I tend to retain a lot of water, and it happens very normally.

When I stop taking it, I tend to lose weight,” she explained to the camera.

I'm not a model, I never will be

The founder of cosmetics brand Rare Beauty went on to send a positive message to members of her community who may be going through a similar experience to hers: “I just wanted to encourage anyone who feels some kind of shame towards what they are going through.

No one knows the real story.

I just want you to know that you are beautiful and wonderful,” she said.

also admitted that there are days when she “feels like crap,” sure, but “much prefers to be healthy” and take care of her by following her treatment.

"I'm not a model, I never will be," hammered the 30-year-old actress and singer.

Before concluding by sending a “bodypositive” message to its subscribers, while kindly inviting its detractors to look elsewhere: “Thank you for supporting me and understanding.

And if you don't, walk away, because honestly, I don't believe in shaming people for [their] bodies or anything."

“I am perfect as I am”

Target of derogatory comments aimed at her silhouette for several years, Selena Gomez has repeatedly expressed herself publicly on this subject.

Victim of "bodyshaming" after her recent appearance at the Golden Globes, she had silenced the critics by responding to them with detachment and humor in a video posted live on Instagram in early January 2023. "I'm a little fat right now because I I had a lot of fun during the holidays”, she launched facing the camera before turning her head towards her little sister and questioning her, “Isn’t it?”.

Already in April 2022, the ex-Disney star had defended her right to eat as she wanted in a video posted on TikTok from her bed: “I try to stay slim but I went to Jack in the Box (

famous American fast-food chain, Editor's note

) and I had four tacos, three spring rolls, onion rings and a spicy chicken sandwich".

Before bidding: "But honestly I don't care about my weight because people will complain anyway: 'You're too small', 'you're too big', 'it's not right'.

Bi**h, I'm perfect as I am.

Moral of the story ?

Bye."

Well sent.
