"We want to put pressure on the Head of State before the opening of the agricultural show at the end of the week

(from February 25 to March 5, editor's note)

"

.

After Saint-Étienne, Sunday, the farmers of the region are called upon to mobilize in Lyon this Tuesday as relayed by Michel Joux, president of the regional branch of the FNSEA.

With the Young Farmer union, the federation is leading a national movement for French food sovereignty, born in particular from the ban on neonicotinoids.

In particular, they demand fair remuneration for producers, and will drive several dozen tractors through the streets of Lyon.

Manure in the beautiful neighborhoods?

Departing from the four corners of the Lyon metropolitan area, and in particular from the FDSEA headquarters at the Tour de Salvagny, but also from Beynost and Rive-de-Gier, the machines will reach Les Brotteaux by the A42, A6, A7 and A47 motorways, where disturbances are possible in the early morning.

Appointment is given in front of the headquarters of the Dreal (Regional Directorate for the Environment, Planning and Housing), place Jules Ferry, at 10 a.m. with a few tons of manure.

Enough to intoxicate the opulent boulevards of the 6th arrondissement with an unusual fragrance.

The procession will then take the direction of the prefecture for 1 p.m.

The prefect Fabienne Buccio is to receive the boss of the FRSEA, Michel Joux, and that of the Young Farmers Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes union, Jocelyn Dubost, for an interview.

With probably a little animation under the windows.

Pesticides and fair compensation

“We come to make noise for the agricultural remuneration which is not up to the challenge, and to preserve the means of production which are gradually withdrawn from us”

, launches Michel Joux.

Among these means are sanitary products, one of the FNSEA's hobbyhorses.

“We want to use less of them but before banning them, we have to find solutions”

, plagues the president of the FRSEA.

However, this is not the only subject that the Aurhalpine farmers intend to address, who have prepared a roadmap of 12 measures to be delivered to the executive.

At the forefront of which is the application of the EGalim 2 law, which should make it possible to better remunerate farmers by rebalancing the balance of power with manufacturers and supermarkets.

To allow the first link in the chain to live from its work and the last to feed itself at a reasonable price in an inflationary context.

Food sovereignty and the Lyon model

Because if the attraction for the short circuits of the post-Covid can re-enchant the profession in the image of the “newly installed”, it is not enough to attract in mass according to Michel Joux, who points out the lack of attractiveness of the sector.

With a loss of 1,500 farms over the last decade.

"We will have trouble renewing the number of farmers in the territory and we will have to import food when we have the best production system in the world

," he sighs.

With the issue of food sovereignty as the high point of the argument presented to the regional prefect on Tuesday, in a town which has the reputation of producing its own food sovereignty in the Rhône region (cherries from Bessenay to upper Beaujolais farms).
