On February 24, 2022, as Vladimir Putin decided to overwhelm kyiv, unleashing the extraordinary resistance of the invaded nation, another people rose en masse for Ukraine: the Poles.
In just a few days, an entire society, then a State, organized itself to welcome the refugees who arrived, mainly women and children.
They were 9 million to cross into Polish territory, and almost 3 million to stay there, half of whom are still there, fully integrated through work and school.
Thousands of Poles themselves picked up Ukrainian families at the border by car, while millions more volunteered across the country to distribute food and blankets, or offer rooms and apartments.
