Rose Monday procession live in Cologne: a special honor for the old triumvirate

Update from February 20, 11:33 a.m .:

The green-red traditional corps of old town Cologne starts – with 677 old town residents, the regimental band, the marching band and 12 wagons or carriages.

Two floats in particular stand out in the carnival society: Firstly, the time machine float "Et Maschinche - en Fründschaff zesamme ist allespossible", which runs on eggnog, and the float "Kölsche Helden" with the old triumvirate.

Sven Oleff, Gereon Glasemacher and Dr.

Björn Braun as Prince Sven I., Farmer Gereon and Maid Gerdemie reigns over the revelers at the Cologne Carnival.

But although they are the only Cologne triumvirate with two terms of office, a very special highlight remained open: During their time as a triumvirate, they were not able to ride on any Shrove Monday procession.

That should change with the “Kölsche Heroes Car”.

"Despite all the difficulties, the triumvirate showed during the Corona period what makes the carnival in Cologne so special and for that we, as the board of directors of the Cologne Carnival Festival Committee, want to say thank you," says Zugleiter Holger Kirsch from the Cologne Carnival Festival Committee to 24RHEIN.

"The Rosenmontagszug 2023 is a homage to the session mottos of the last 200 years." Together, the Cologne anthem "Zo Fooss noh Kölle jonn" is sung.

And then there is the countdown and finally what Cologne had to wait for so long: "The Shrove Monday procession 2023 is open," says Kirsch happily.

The “Kölsche Funkenöter von 1932” make the start – ironic, because the sparks represent the triumvirate.

Hopefully they survive the day, according to our 24RHEIN reporter on site.

Rosenmontagszug 2023: Erster Zug seit drei Jahren – Hunderttausende in Köln erwartet

Update vom 20.

In general, it is expected that the Rose Monday processions will be followed by hundreds of thousands of spectators along the route, just like in the pre-Corona period.

In Cologne, where the largest German carnival parade takes place, the police secure the major event with 2000 police officers.

The Cologne Rose Monday procession is celebrating its 200th anniversary this year and is therefore rolling across the Rhine for the first time.

So far he had only ever moved to the left bank of the Rhine.
