Two weeks after the 2023 Grammy Awards ceremony, Madonna is not done fighting with her detractors.
Following the unflattering remarks against her, propagated on social networks and in the media the day after the evening, the singer responds with humor.
“Look how cute I am now that the swelling from the surgery has gone down.
Lol,” she wrote in a tweet posted on Monday, Feb. 20, which featured a photo of herself staring at the camera.
The ironic tone of the message and the crying laughing emoji attached to it suggest that this is not a surgical “coming out” to be taken literally.

“Ageism” and “mysognia”
This snub echoes her recent remarks addressed to those who had overwhelmed her after the Grammy Awards.
In an Instagram post on Wednesday, February 8, Madonna lamented that her stage appearance was overshadowed by criticism of her physical appearance.
“Instead of focusing on what I said in my speech (...), many people chose to talk only about the close-up photos of me taken by a press photographer who would distort the face of n 'never mind!' she was indignant, referring to pictures released by tabloids after the evening.
The latter had used them to illustrate articles in particular about her physical transformation and her potential cosmetic surgery operations, calling her “unrecognizable”.

Raising her voice, she then denounced “ageism” and “misogyny” which “permeates” our society, castigating “a world which refuses to celebrate women over 45 and which feels the need to punish her if she continues to be a strong, hard-working and adventurous woman.
And to conclude: "I have never apologized for any of the creative choices I made, nor for my appearance, nor for the way I dress and I will not start."
