Nir Kalimi, a worker at a duty free restaurant at Ben Gurion Airport, was arrested last night (Monday) on suspicion of smuggling duty free tobacco products into Israel, with the aim of selling them on social media.

According to the suspicion, Kalimi made about 340 purchases of tobacco products in the last eight months, for an aggregate amount of more than NIS 340,000 and sold them on social networks, mainly on Telegram.

He purchased airline tickets that would allow him to purchase duty free products and used his employee card to transport them to Israel without going through customs inspection.

Thus, according to the suspicion, he evaded paying a tax of about half a million shekels.

About a week ago, six people were detained by customs investigators, on suspicion of smuggling millions of liters of diesel fuel from Dubai, through Egypt to Israel.

Customs say that the purpose of the smuggling is to avoid paying purchase tax in the amount of NIS 10,369,874.

The Haifa Magistrate's Court released two of them under restrictive conditions, David Mesbecher from Tel Aviv, a manager at the company "Shamani Indusiya Israel" (which according to customs also manages a business division at the company "Gadot"), and the manager of the office Rosi Shemen from Herzliya, both 38 years old. The customs investigators claim

that The diesel fuel, which was stored at the Mizrah storage facility in the Acre area, was removed from there on several occasions late at night during the month of January, and transported to the south of the country.

This is contrary to the company's commitment, while laboratories check the essence of the substance that will be imported as a "watch distillate" that is exempt from taxes.
