The ICAC today (21st) charged a former assistant engineer working in a subsidiary of Café de Coral Group for allegedly concealing that he was a major shareholder of a contractor and defrauding a fast food chain of awarding two projects to the contractor.
The defendant involved has been released on bail by the ICAC and will appear at the Fanling Magistrates' Court on Thursday (23rd).

The defendant involved in the case, Chen Yaohua (53 years old), a former assistant engineer of Café de Coral Enterprises Limited (Café de Coral Enterprises), was charged with two counts of fraud, in violation of Section 16A of the Theft Ordinance.
The defendant worked as an assistant engineer for Café de Coral from February to early December 2021. His responsibilities included requesting quotations from contractors for engineering and maintenance projects of a plant of the parent company, Café de Coral Group Co., Ltd. (Café de Coral Group).
According to the Café de Coral Group employee handbook, employees of the group and its subsidiaries are required to avoid conflicts of interest.
If an employee has any interest in an organization that has business dealings with the Café de Coral Group and its subsidiaries, it must be declared to the Café de Coral Group.

The defendant is suspected of concealing his interests in Leading Engineering Co., Ltd. (Leading) from the Café de Coral Group from April to October 2021, and intending to defraud the Café de Coral Group to hire Leading to be responsible for the replacement of a security booth engineering, and maintenance engineering for an air-conditioning system.
After receiving a corruption complaint, the ICAC launched an investigation and found that the defendant was the sole director and major shareholder of Lead Crown at the time of the case.
The two projects involved in the case involved a total cost of about 70,000 yuan.
