Shrove Monday in Cologne: the last car reaches the end of the train after almost 11 hours

: After hours of delay, the last car of the Rose Monday train in Cologne has now reached its destination.
"Record-breaking: The last car of the Rose Monday train reached the Severinstorburg after almost 11 hours," the police said on Twitter shortly after 9 p.m.
As a result, the traffic closures along the train route are now gradually being lifted.

According to the Cologne Carnival Festival Committee, the anniversary Shrove Monday procession “exceeded all expectations”.
With a distance of 8.5 km, it was the longest in the 200-year history and started for the very first time on the Schäl Sick on the right bank of the Rhine.
Hundreds of thousands caused "dense crowds to the right and left of the train path", which is why the train ended "significantly late" on Severinsstraße at around 8:40 p.m.
“The Cologne revelers had to wait three years for 'their' Shrove Monday procession – and they were rewarded for their patience.
[...] The revelers wanted to finally sway and celebrate together again.
More than 12,000 members from our carnival societies created a party atmosphere with Kamelle and Strüsjer,” says train director Holger Kirsch.

Rose Monday parade in Cologne with a significant delay due to carnivalists
Update from February 20, 8:16 p.m .
: The Cologne Rose Monday procession takes much longer than usual this year.
Even shortly after 8 p.m., the last cars have not yet reached the end at Chlodwigplatz.
According to the Cologne Carnival Festival Committee, the 8.5-kilometer train should not reach its destination in the southern part of the city until well after 8:00 p.m., the German Press Agency announced.
Before Corona, the event always ended around 6 p.m., but due to the new route starting in Deutz, a little delay (around 7 p.m.) was expected.
"The train was 900 meters longer, but the route had fewer curves," said a spokeswoman for the festival committee in the evening of the

.
Again and again, however, enthusiastic carnivalists would have stopped the train, which probably led to the delay.
Hundreds of thousands of spectators lined the route.
According to the Cologne Carnival Festival Committee, it is not possible to give an exact number.
Shrove Monday in Cologne: the city takes stock – 65 cars towed away, 3 people resuscitated
Update from February 20, 7:05 p.m .:
Around 400 security forces are and were on Shrove Monday by or for the city of Cologne’s regulatory office.
According to an initial statement of operations, there was a lot to do for them.
By late afternoon, 65 vehicles had been towed away, 85 bicycles that were obstructing the train route had been flexed away and 199 written warnings had been issued (2019: 53 seizures, 89 warnings).
Despite hundreds of mobile toilets and urinals, around 20 “wild pissers” were caught by the security service by 3 p.m.
Meanwhile, there was not much to do for the fire brigade and rescue service on Shrove Monday in Cologne.
By the afternoon, they had been called out a total of 198 times (182 for emergency services), which the city says is about the same "order of magnitude on a typical weekday."
Among them were "only two adolescents with excessive alcohol consumption and only 15 patients with glass cut injuries".
The emergency doctor was called until 4 p.m. for only one operation.
However, three people along the train route also had to be resuscitated.
Cologne Rose Monday Procession: There is a celebration all over Cologne
Update from February 20, 5:53 p.m .:
With mostly sunny weather, countless people are still partying on the streets of Cologne.
How many there are exactly is impossible to estimate seriously, according to a spokeswoman for the Cologne Carnival Festival Committee.
But there is a “very, very large rush” – even more than in the years before Corona.
As a result, access had to be temporarily blocked along the train route.
And there are also many revelers on the move away from the Shrove Monday procession.
Zülpicher Strasse was closed by the city in the afternoon.
"The capacity limit of Kwatier Latäng has been reached - all accesses to Zülpicher Straße are now closed," the city announced.
"Luxembourger Strasse is closed to motor vehicle traffic out of town."
Shrove Monday in Cologne: knife attack on the cathedral steps
Update from February 20, 5:23 p.m .:
So far it has been very quiet and peaceful in Cologne.
But there was a very unpleasant incident in the afternoon of Shrove Monday on the cathedral steps.
There, a costumed 30-year-old man from Cologne was attacked with a knife and slightly injured in the neck, as the police announced in the afternoon.
The attack is said to have happened around 2:40 p.m.
"After the crime, the suspect fled in the direction of Wallrafplatz," said a police spokesman.
The 30-year-old was taken to the hospital.
At the time of the crime, the alleged perpetrator was wearing a black hat, a black quilted jacket with a hood, blue jeans and white sneakers.
The police are evaluating video recordings and are currently interviewing witnesses.
Shrove Monday in Cologne: Severinstrasse and Zülpicher Strasse are full
Update from February 20, 4:46 p.m .:
After individual areas in Deutz and in Südstadt were already overcrowded, Zülpicher Straße is now also affected.
"The capacity limit of the Kwatier Latäng has been reached - all accesses to Zülpicher Straße are now closed," the city announced.
This also has an impact on traffic: "Luxembourger Strasse is closed to motor vehicle traffic out of town."
So far, however, there have not been any real riots, as the police reported to 24RHEIN.
"So far, the deployment of criminal offenses has been limited," says a police spokesman.
A first statement of operations with concrete numbers should be available on Tuesday at the latest.
The exact number of operations and the record of crimes should then follow at the end of next week.

Update vom 20. Februar, 14:23 Uhr: D‘r Zoch kütt – und ganz Köln schaut zu. Hunderttausende verfolgen den Rosenmontagszug. Erste Bereiche sind bereits gesperrt. Nach dem Bereich in Deutz ist nun „auch auf der Severinstraße die Kapazitätsgrenze am Zochweg erreicht – alle Zugänge sind jetzt gesperrt“, so die Stadt.
Das Festkomitee Kölner Karneval teilt mit, dass sich die Bereiche „jetzt schon rasend schnell mit Besuchern“ füllen. „Alle Jecken, die noch auf dem Weg ins Vringstveedel sind, sollten sich unbedingt andere Plätze am Zugweg suchen.“

Update vom 20. Februar, 14:03 Uhr: Aktuell ist die Nippeser Bürgerwehr (Gruppe 26) beim Kölner Dom angekommen. Und die mitgehenden Pferde – benehmen sich tadellos, so unser 24RHEIN-Reporter vor Ort. Im Vorfeld gab es immer wieder viel Kritik für die Pferde im Rosenmontagszug. Darum wurden strenge Regeln für Reiter und Pferde festgelegt.

Update vom 20. Februar, 13:16 Uhr: Nach dem bereits um 12 Uhr die ersten Bereiche in Deutz wegen Überfüllung gesperrt worden sind, wurden nun auch im Linksrheinischen Bereiche gesperrt. Das ist vom Sicherheitskonzept für Rosenmontag vorgegeben. „Auch auf der Severinstraße ist die Kapazitätsgrenze am Zochweg erreicht – alle Zugänge sind jetzt gesperrt“, so die Stadt.
Die Südseite der Hohenzollernbrücke ist für den Fuß- und Radverkehr „Einbahnstraße“ von Deutz Richtung Innenstadt/Dom. Die Nordseite ist „Einbahnstraße“ in der Gegenrichtung. Radfahrer*innen sollen ihre Drahtesel schieben – in beiden Richtungen. Auch das Festkomitee Kölner Karneval teilt mit: „Leev Jecke, es wird langsam voll auf der Schäl Sick! Der Sperrring in Deutz ist zurzeit geschlossen, da das Maximum an Zuschauern erreicht ist. Es gibt aber noch Platz auf der Brücke – und natürlich an vielen anderen Stellen entlang des Zugweges!“

Update vom 20. Februar, 12:56 Uhr: Seit rund 3 Stunden läuft der Rosenmontagszug durch Köln. Das Fazit unserer 24RHEIN-Reporter vor Ort: „Stimmung ist der Hammer, muss man sagen, Leute super drauf, Sonne scheint, laute Musik, alle sehr ausgelassen.“ In circa einer Stunde werden die ersten Teilnehmer am Ziel in der Südstadt ankommen. Die letzten Teilnehmer stehen hingegen noch immer am Tanzbrunnen im Rechtsrheinischen.

Die ersten Sicherheits-Sperrungen greifen nun, wie die Stadt mitteilt. „Dies betrifft Neuhöffer Straße, Opladener Straße und die Deutzer Freiheit. Der Zugang zur Deutzer Brücke bleibt frei.“
Auch das Festkomitee Kölner Karneval teilt mit: „Leev Jecke, es wird langsam voll auf der Schäl Sick! Der Sperrring in Deutz ist zur Zeit geschlossen, da das Maximum an Zuschauern erreicht ist. Es gibt aber noch Platz auf der Brücke – und natürlich an vielen anderen Stellen entlang des Zugweges!“

Update vom 20. Februar, 11:33 Uhr: Das grün-rote Traditionskorps Altstädter Köln startet – mit 677 Altstädtern, der Regimentskapelle, dem Spielmannszug und 12 Wagen beziehungsweise Kutschen. Vor allem zwei Wagen fallen bei der Karnevalsgesellschaft auf: Zum einen der Zeitmaschinen-Wagen „Et Maschinche – en Fründschaff zesamme ist alles möglich“, der mit Eierlikör betrieben wird und der Wagen „Kölsche Helden“ mit dem Alten Dreigestirn.
Zwei Sessionen haben Sven Oleff, Gereon Glasemacher und Dr. Björn Braun als Prinz Sven I., Bauer Gereon und Jungfrau Gerdemie die Jecken im Kölner Karneval regiert. Doch obwohl sie das einzige Kölner Dreigestirn mit zwei Amtszeiten sind, blieb ein ganz besonderes Highlight offen: In ihrer Zeit als Dreigestirn konnten sie bei keinem Rosenmontagszug mitfahren. Das soll sich mit dem „Wagen Kölsche Helden“ ändern. „Das Dreigestirn hat in der Coronazeit trotz all der Schwierigkeiten gezeigt, was den Karneval in Köln ausmacht und dafür wollen wir uns als Vorstand des Festkomitees Kölner Karneval bedanken“, sagt Zugleiter Holger Kirsch vom Festkomitee Kölner Karneval gegenüber 24RHEIN.
Rosenmontagszug in Köln live: 300 Tonnen Süßigkeiten und 700.000 Schokoladentafeln
Update vom 20. Februar, 11:24 Uhr: Seit rund anderthalb Stunden fährt der Rosenmontagszug durch Köln. Ein paar Zahlen und Fakten zum Zoch: Die Strecke ist insgesamt 8,5 Kilometer lang. Der Zoch selbst ist rund 9 Kilometer lang. Heißt, wenn die ersten Teilnehmer in der Südstadt ankommen, sind die letzten Wagen noch gar nicht gestartet. Insgesamt nehmen 12000 Teilnehmer am Zoch teil.
Auf der gesamten Strecke werden rund 300 Tonnen Süßigkeiten, 700.000 Schokoladentafeln, 220.000 Schachteln Pralinen, 300.000 Strüßjer, Tausende Stoffpuppen und kleine Präsente geworfen. Doch damit das möglich ist, ist echtes „Kamelle-Tetris“ nötig, erklärt die Große Allgemeinen Karnevalsgesellschaft von 1900 Köln e.V. Mit einer ganzen Reihe von Helfern wurden insgesamt mehr als 1,5 Tonnen Kamelle und 10.000 Strüssje auf den eigenen Wagen verstaut, damit die Versorgung der Jecken im Zug ganz reibungslos verlaufen kann. 160 Personen laufen für die Große Allgemeine Karnevalsgesellschaft von 1900 Köln e.V. im Rosenmontagszug mit.

Update vom 20. Februar, 10:53 Uhr: Am Kölner Dom ist die Stimmung bereits am Kochen. Worauf sich alle am meisten freuen? „Endlich wieder das ganze Drumherum. Einfach alles“, so eine Jessi, die den Zug ebenfalls verfolgt. Vor allem, weil der Zoch in den letzten Jahren nicht stattfinden konnten. Aufgrund des Coroanvirus und des Ukraine-Kriegs musste er ausfallen.

Update vom 20. Februar, 10:43 Uhr: Das Panorama ist besonders. Erstmalig fährt der Rosenmontagszug in Köln über die Deutzer Brücke und verbindet die beiden Rheinseiten miteinander. Aktuell fahren die ersten Wagen über die Brücke. „So schön – da kommen mir die Tränen“, freut sich Zugleiter Holger Kirsch.
Bis zu 7500 Gäste dürfen auf der Brücke stehen und zuschauen, doch die Realität sieht anders aus: Die Brücke ist nahezu leer. Nur vereinzelte Jecken verfolgen von hier den Zoch. Anders sieht es am Kölner Dom aus. Etliche Jecke sind schon jetzt hier – obwohl vom Zoch noch nichts zu sehen ist. Nicht nur auf den Tribünen finden sich die Karnevalsfans, sondern auch auf der Domplatte selbst. Bester „Platz zum Gucken, ohne bezahlen zu müssen“, so unsere 24RHEIN-Reporter.
Rosenmontagszug in Köln live: Erste Wagen rollen los
Update vom 20. Februar, 10:30 Uhr: Der Zug bewegt sich so langsam in Richtung Deutzer Brücke. Die erste offizielle Traditionsgesellschaft dabei: Die Blauen Funken. Gegen 14 Uhr sollten die Karnevalisten am Ziel in der Südstadt ankommen. Bis der letzte Wagen im Rosenmontagszug angekommen ist, dauert es dann noch einmal mehrere Stunden. Dann ist es bereits dunkel.
Update vom 20. Februar, 10:15 Uhr: Auch der Wagen von Zugleiter Holger Kirsch rollt an. Pünktlich zu seinem Auftritt knallt die Konfetti Kanone rot weißes Konfetti raus. Neben seinen beiden Töchtern fahren auch mehrere Promis mit. Darunter: Anna Planken, Moderatorin beim WDR. Auch die Paveier haben zum 40-jährigen Jubiläum einen eigenen Wagen, von dem fleißig Kamelle und Strüßjer geworfen.

Februar, 10 Uhr: Das Opening im Kölner Rosenmontagsbeginn startet. „Hück schrieve mer Jeschichte“, sagt Zugleiter Holger Kirsch. „Der Rosenmontagszug 2023 ist eine Hommage an die Sessionsmottos der letzten 200 Jahre.“ Gemeinsam wird vor dem die Köln-Hymne „Zo Fooss noh Kölle jonn“ gesungen. Und anschließend gibt es den Countdown und schließlich das, worauf Köln so lange warten musste: „Der Rosenmontagszug 2023 ist eröffnet“, freut sich Kirsch.
Den Auftakt machen die „kölschen Funkentöter von 1932“ – ironisch, weil die Funken ja das Dreigestirn stellen. Hoffentlich überleben sie den Tag, so unser 24RHEIN-Reporter vor Ort.

Wir sind zurück auf der Straße und wir schreiben Geschichte: Wir verbinden mit dem Zug erstmalig das Rechtsrheinische mit dem Linksrheinischen“, freut sich Zugleiter Holger Kirsch. Um 10 Uhr soll der Rosenmontagszug starten.

Februar, 7:00 Uhr: Nach den Schull- und Veedelzöchen am Sonntag, hat nun eine 25-köpfige Jury, bestehend aus Oberbürgermeisterin Henriette Recker, den Vertreterinnen der Freunde und Förderer des Kölnischen Brauchtums e.V., des Festkomitees des Kölner Karnevals von 1823 e.V. und den Kölner Medien angehören, drei Gruppen ausgewählt, die heute beim Rosenmontagszug in Köln mitgehen dürfen. Das Wurfmaterial wird den Preisträgern kostenlos zur Verfügung gestellt.

Rosenmontagszug 2023: Erster Zug seit drei Jahren – Hunderttausende in Köln erwartet
Update vom 20. Februar, 6:50 Uhr: Erstmals seit drei Jahren setzen sich am Montag wieder die Rosenmontagszüge in Bewegung. 2021 und 2022 waren die Züge wegen Corona ausgefallen. Im vergangenen Jahr hatte es in Köln stattdessen eine Demonstration gegen den Angriffskrieg Russlands auf die Ukraine gegeben. Daran hatte sich eine Viertelmillion Menschen beteiligt. Diesmal ist der Krieg ein Thema auf den Persiflagewagen.

Als Aufstellbereich für die 12.000 Teilnehmer ist das Areal rund um die Kölner Messe vorgesehen. Von da geht es dann über die Deutzer Freiheit und die Deutzer Brücke in Richtung Altstadt. Ab da wird die bisherige Route umgedreht. „Linksrheinisch behält der Rosenmontagszug rund 85 Prozent seiner altbekannten Strecke und verlängert sich voraussichtlich nur um rund 100 Meter“, so das Festkomitee Kölner Karneval. Insgesamt ist die Zochstrecke rund 8,5 Kilometer lang.
