At least six people were killed and hundreds injured after 6.4 and 5.8 magnitude aftershocks struck Turkey's southern Hatay province near the Syrian border, it said Tuesday. the Turkish Emergency Coordination Center, SAKOM.
“A 6.4 magnitude earthquake was experienced in Defne, Hatay on February 20.
Subsequently, 90 aftershocks were recorded, the largest of which was 5.8," SAKOM reported.
“According to the information received from SAKOM, 294 citizens, of whom 18 were seriously injured, were treated by the health units of various hospitals in the area.
Unfortunately, 6 of our citizens lost their lives,” SAKOM said.

Search and rescue efforts in the region affected by the quakes are continuing, the head of Turkey's Emergency and Disaster Management Agency (AFAD), Yunus Sezer, said in a tweet on Tuesday.
In northwestern Syria, more than 130 people were injured in Monday's earthquakes, which caused other buildings to collapse, the White Helmets volunteer rescue group said.

“Our teams are working to bring the injured to hospitals, inspect the affected villages and towns and remove rubble to open roads for ambulances,” the White Helmets said.
Monday's quake followed a deadly 7.8 magnitude quake on February 6 that killed more than 46,000 people in Turkey and Syria.
