An Austrian has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison in Iran for alleged espionage.
As the Austrian Foreign Ministry also announced in the evening, the Iranian ambassador in Vienna was summoned to the ministry, where "our unequivocal protest" against the judgment announced on Monday was conveyed to him.
The accused was arrested in Iran in October.
Unlike two other Austrians imprisoned in Iran, who were also convicted as alleged spies a few years ago, the man is not an Austrian-Iranian dual citizen.
Earlier in the day it was announced that German-Iranian Djamshid Sharmahd had been sentenced to death in Iran in a controversial trial.
A revolutionary court in Tehran holds the 67-year-old responsible for a terrorist attack, among other things, as reported by the Misan justice portal.
