The failure of the advocacy of the legal reform: a low budget, one speaker and a lack of expertise Israel today

2023-02-21T21:49:33.174Z

The reform of the justice system passed the first reading, but most Israelis still do not understand it and the Likud is having trouble communicating it. • In one of its major moves, the party recorded a colossal failure in informing and conveying the messages.

The first laws of the legal reform passed the first reading last night.

However, as far as the promotion and communication of the move is concerned, the Likud failed miserably.

You don't know Nahum.

Nahum is not yet 27 years old, a kind guy, an excellent professional.

Nahum is alone in front of the whole world.

Nahum is the spokesman for Yariv Levin, and upon his very narrow shoulders, without planning and even quite by accident, a particularly difficult task - to discuss the legal reform - fell upon him.

Yes, you heard right, this historic move has to be explained by a young man, in front of dozens of media outlets and hundreds of reporters, leaders of countries in the US and Europe, all the world's economic leaders and millions of tweeters.

Here is an amazing detail that was revealed here for the first time: a week after the press conference where Levin announced the legal reform, Likud allocated a budget for its promotion.

The amount was, hold tight - only NIS 8,500.

How many ads can you buy with this?

How many signs can be posted?

What professionals can be hired for NIS 8,500?

Nothing and nothing.

Hardly printing flyers.

Only recently they allocated another NIS 200,000 to publicize the reform, and even this amount is considered a joke for such a significant move.

without media preparation

The failure of advocacy in Likud is enormous.

The reform, which includes dozens of details and legal quibbles, was launched without media preparation work (for fear that parts would be leaked to the media), without background conversations for reporters and editors, without a list of possible supporting interviewees, without signage, and above all - without informational materials for the public.

is nothing.

Only last Monday, a month and a half (!) after the launch of the reform, a printer was found in the Ministry of Information, and Likud members received a message sheet from Minister Distel-Atbarian asking them to use the term "reform to strengthen democracy".

Avi Dichter recently said that Likud has not yet held a deep discussion on the reform.

17 Likud ministers hardly talk about the issue.

Some are not knowledgeable, some don't want confrontations, some reserve interviews for the affairs of their offices.

That's not how you build a wall, that's not how you explain reform.

Criticism in the coalition

Officials in the partner parties in the coalition direct the criticism to Likud members.

"They didn't deal with this matter at all. You hardly saw appearances by Likud people or trips in Israel to try to explain the reform. Even if Netanyahu couldn't deal with it - where was his team? The whole atmosphere around the reform was negative, there was aggressive brainwashing here , and the Likud side did nothing."

Knesset member Danny Danon said at the Likud faction meeting: "We win in legislation but fail in advocacy. We should have gone into this campaign more organized. The handling of advocacy is negligent and inadequate."

Danon asked for consultation in the faction and the establishment of a Likud advocacy team, which would lead advocacy in a more professional manner.

A week after the announcement of the legal reform, Likud allocated a budget intended for its promotion.

The amount determined for the move, hold tight - only NIS 8,500

For the supporters of the reform, the miss is huge.

Despite the protest in the streets, there is agreement on quite a few sections.

Already today there are more than a hundred mandates in the Knesset, including Lapid, Gantz and the coalition, who agree that change is needed, and that we need to talk about it.

There is also broad agreement on the need to diversify the court, from Riv Levin to Aharon Barak.

Likud members are considered the best campaigners in Israel, winners of elections, the inventors of the "Baby-Sitter" and "Bibi-Ba".

In the legal reform campaign they lost, by a big margin.

The reform passed in the first reading.

The coalition did win a brilliant political victory, but the explanatory failure is crushing.
