The former President of the Supreme Court, Dorit Binish, commented this evening (Tuesday) on the legal revolution promoted by the government and said that "the discussions in the Constitutional Committee were a show".

"They said what they said and moved on," Binish attacked.

"I heard the speeches and was shocked by the lack of accuracy. They said that the judges choose themselves - which is not true."

According to the former President of the Supreme Court, the beginning of the legislation is "one of the high points".

"It turns out that now those who determined that the only problem that needs to be solved immediately, of all the problems in the country, is the composition of the judges and changing the courts. This is not a reform to change the courts, it is a reform to change the system of the regime," she said.

She also referred to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's calls for negotiations between the parties, saying: "Those who want us to be one company must also accept the idea that there will be negotiations. But if the legislation continues and does not stop, then what kind of negotiations is this? If it is subject to the pace of the legislation, it is a gun to the head, it is not accepted on the mind".

"The discussions - a presentation".

Binish was asked what would happen if the High Court rejects parts of the reform, and the government does not comply with the ruling, and replied: "This situation keeps me awake, I hope we don't get to that moment - it might happen and it will be very difficult." The revolution planned by the government includes a series of significant

changes In the legal system, such as a determination that only an expanded composition of the High Court can invalidate legislation passed by the Knesset.

Another step of the revolution, designed to strengthen the hand of the government vis-à-vis the court, is the establishment of a superseding clause that will annul the decisions of the High Court with a majority of only 61 members of the Knesset, as well as changing the composition of the committee for the selection of judges so that it is fully controlled by the coalition. The reform also deals with weakening their

power of the legal advisors to the government, so that their position will not bind the government, and by eliminating the reason for reasonableness, which, among other things, significantly limits the court's ability to intervene in the appointment of senior officials.
