The left launches into the electoral fight: divided or a list of unity and the debut of a presidential candidate

2023-02-21T13:02:02.977Z

Nicolás Del Caño, Myriam Bregman and Celeste Fierro have already announced their candidacies within the FIT, but another party is asking for a formula between the PTS leader and the PO leader.

The left also went into campaign mode for the 2023 presidential elections and the dance of names of the main leaders began to become official, as well as the debate on the need to form a "unity list" and avoid divisions.

In addition, Libres del Sur, the political force of Barrios de Pie, one of the organizations that make up the Piquetero Unit, will debut in the Simultaneous and Mandatory Open Primaries with its own candidate.

The Unity Left Front kicked off at the end of 2022 with the announcement of candidacies.

The PTS launched the current deputies Myriam Bregman and Alejandro Vilca as pre-candidates for a presidential formula.

In parallel, Nicolás del Caño, the last FIT candidate for the Rosada, signed up with Christian Castillo for the province of Buenos Aires.

The MST, another of the parties that make up this front, presented Celeste Fierro as a presidential candidate for the PASO.

The force that integrates, together with Vilma Ripoll and Alejandro Bodart, insists on using the Primaries as a mechanism to choose the candidates and so that each sector of the FIT-U can express their divergences and ideas within the electoral debate.

Days ago, the national plenary of the Partido Obrero proclaimed the presidential formula made up of Gabriel Solano and Romina Del Plá for the vice presidency, in addition to the candidacies of Néstor Pitrola for governor of the Province of Buenos Aires and Vanina Biasi for the Head of Government of the city.

Jesús Escobar will debut in the PASO as a candidate for president for Libres del Sur.

In the midst of these announcements of multiple candidacies, the Socialist Left, the third force that makes up the FIT-U, proposes that there be no division of the front in the Primaries and that they come together in a list of unity made up of Bregman-Solano.

"We are against the division of the FIT-U presenting different candidacies for the PASO", stated Juan Carlos Giordano, who reiterated his "discordant position with the other three parties in the front on the fact that each party has launched its own presidential formula".

A new presidential candidate on the left

Jesús Escobar will debut these STEP as a candidate for president for the Libres del Sur party, the political force behind Barrios de Pie, one of the main organizations that make up the piqueteros opposed to the Government.

He is a former provincial deputy from Neuquén, who was elected in July during a meeting of leaders and who already launched his presidential candidacy early in August.

"People are astonished at the political class that says the problem is the 'judicial mafia', or that the Court has to have 15 or 25 members. Argentines can't make ends meet, merchants can't pay taxes and there are children who only eat once a day," he says in a dialogue with

.

Since he officially launched his candidacy, the leader has already toured 20 provinces and 70 cities.

These days, he is giving talks in the Province and City of Buenos Aires.

"I came to the presidency and I lower the salary of all elected politicians, I stop paying the IMF, which in the next few years Argentina plans to disburse billions of dollars to it and I put it at the service of SMEs, popular economies and a large public works plan to generate thousands of jobs to get Argentines out of poverty," he lists among his main electoral proposals.

In 2018, the Free Movement of the South split in two.

On the one hand, leaders such as Silvia Saravia (Barrios de Pie-Libres del Sur), Escobar himself and Humberto Tumini (president of the party) decided to continue with the Libres del Sur label.

While leaders like Daniel Menéndez, today at the head of Somos Barrios de Pie, together with Victoria Donda, joined the Frente de Todos and ended up being appointed as officials of the national and Buenos Aires government.

The group led by Menéndez will join Patria de los Comunes, the brand new label that the Evita Movement will present on March 17 on the field of Ferrocarril Oeste, outside the FdT assembly.
