The mermaid Sheinin joined about six months ago to the fin unit in the sea arm. The family has a special connection to Mitzvot: her father, Dr. Aviad Sheinin, is a former commander of the ship Deborah and is currently a marine researcher at the University of Haifa. The motif of the blue depths also recurs in the oil of the family's sisters: Bat Hayam, Yas'or, Tchelat and Rehab

The sea is a significant part of the Sheinin family's life.

The father, Dr. Aviad Sheinin, former commander of the ship "Devora" with the rank of lieutenant colonel, is a marine researcher who heads the field of super predators at the School of Marine Sciences at the University of Haifa.

Sheinin grew up in Ashkelon and says that the sea has always been significant to him, but it was only during his military service that he realized that the sea is part of his identity and that his professional future also lies in it.

According to him, "Many of the Navy veterans tell of a positive, loving and familial experience in their experience of military service, and so was mine. My service period at sea was a formative experience for the rest of my life."

"The love for the sea is a kind of virus in many navy veterans that you infect those around you with," added Sheinin.

However, it seems that the virus is especially dominant with him and his eldest daughter, Bat Ham, was infected with it - and seven months ago she enlisted in the "Fin" combat unit in the Navy, which secures Israel's ports.

The names that Aviad and his wife Shani gave to their daughters make it clear once again how significant the love for the sea is in the Sheinin family: the eldest, the mermaid, is the one who serves as a fighter in the "Fin" unit.

The second daughter was named Yas'or, the sea bird that floats above the sea in a unique way.

The name of the third daughter is Blue, like the blue of the sea and the daughter of the elders is called Rahab, the name of a legendary figure associated with the sea mentioned in the Bible.

"My name always comes with questions and reactions following it and throughout childhood it was always a topic of conversation," said the mermaid. "Over the years, many advantages are added to this name and I'm sure you won't forget my name," she added. The mermaid said that her father instilled in her the connection to the sea

: When I was a child, we were at sea almost every Saturday, and occasionally we also went on cruises with my father." She explained that when the draft came, it was clear to her that she would join the Navy and become a fighter: "The fin unit answered both of my wishes." In the year between graduating from the army recruitment school,

Beit Haim joined the pre-military preparatory school "Mensher Kello" in Kibbutz Ma'gan Michael. The kibbutz is located by the sea and according to her the proximity to the sea during the preparatory year, combined with the group life during the year, solidified her desire to join the Navy and prepared her for the special and family atmosphere in her unit.

Aviad believes that serving in the fin unit would suit his daughter and gave her advice for serving in the navy: "I told her to just be herself. She has a special character and thrives among people, teamwork is her strength. The sea creates many challenges that require you to be mentally strong and show greatness."

He explains that "the warrior needs to know how to deal with situations where the sea is uncomfortable and calm and still maintain good soldiers in these conditions. This creates a challenge that is not suitable for everyone and creates a kind of sieve that in the end produces a kind of family."

After many years in which he did reserve service, Aviad recently finished his service, so the Bat Hayam and he will not sail together in an operational capacity.

"I passed on the baton of the Navy family," he said.

"As in other families in the Navy, generation pursues generation and continues to serve in the family."
