Memmingen - Since January 16, 2023, Magdalena Buchmüller has been the new, official recruitment consultant at the police station for Memmingen, Mindelheim, Buchloe, Kaufbeuren and Bad Wörishofen.

At a press conference, she provided information about her new and varied tasks.

As the official successor to Matthias Merkle, Magdalena Buchmüller has been the first point of contact for applicants who are applying or want to apply for a position with the Bavarian Police since mid-January of this year.

For five years, from 2017 to 2022, Merkle was the contact person for young people who are interested in working for the Bavarian police and would like advice.

He has now switched to the criminal police and is the deputy head of the department for crime scenes, securing evidence, etcetera.

Magdalena Buchmüller is now following in his footsteps.

And it really is a big task for the young, only 24-year-old policewoman, who has previously worked as a deputy head of department in Kaufbeuren and has taken on this important task as a result of an internal job advertisement.

First, according to Buchmüller, applicants are sought who also meet the mental and physical requirements.

Applicants should generally be between 17 and 30 years old, have a BMI (Body Mass Index) between 18 and 27.49, be at least 1.65 meters tall and have a grip strength of 29 kilograms.

In addition, they should of course not have a criminal record and have no visible tattoos.

However, here too the individual case decides.

The most important prerequisite, however, is the inner conviction and attitude of the applicants.

In addition to physical fitness, the job of a police officer also requires the ability to react correctly to different situations.

According to Magdalena Buchmüller, flexibility, presence and empathy must be available at all times.

On the other hand, the profession of police officer has a lot to offer: Buchmüller pointed out the diverse areas of work, the unchangeable civil servant status, the opportunity for further training and the security of a well-paid and secure job.

Last year, around 700 young people in Bavaria applied for this job, and around 100 of them are now attending the police academy.

The dropout rate is less than five percent.
