The PP rules out rehabilitating Casado in the medium term: the party leadership believes that "it does not add up"

A year can be a long or short time depending on the depth of the wound that has to heal.

The one that caused the civil war between Pablo Casado and Isabel Díaz Ayuso in the PP, which ended the political career of the former party leader, is still bleeding.

Proof of this is that, a year later, the messages ―published by EL PAÍS― have just surfaced from the main leaders of the leadership praising Casado in his confrontation with the president of the Community of Madrid just before turning his back on him, which in Genoa they interpret it as a “settling of scores” by the casadistas.

Especially with the general secretary, Cuca Gamarra, and with the spokesman in the Senate, Javier Maroto, because they have continued in positions of great responsibility after the change in leadership.

That still fresh wound prevents, in Feijóo's opinion,

that it be possible to politically rehabilitate Casado in the medium term.

In Genoa, they fear Ayuso's reaction in the event that the party wanted to organize an act with the ousted former leader, and they do not believe that by doing so they would achieve any political gain.

"Married does not add up", they settle in the direction of the PP.

The problem is Ayuso.

Feijóo knows that the president of the Community of Madrid is still very aware of the friendly fire that wanted to end her a year ago, when Casado made public the commission that the brother of the Madrid leader had charged for a mask supply contract during the pandemic.

Ayuso does not forget, and Feijóo is aware that if he promoted a rapprochement with the former party leader he would open a front with her at the same time, they recognize in Genoa.

“You organize an event with Casado and you have Ayuso questioning him for a week, what does he give us?

In politics you have to do things that have some benefit, ”say sources close to the leader.

Feijóo always moves cautiously in his relationship with Ayuso, in an unstable balance that everyone in the PP is aware of.

“While she is there, neither Casado nor those around her have anything to do.

Right now everything is very recent, and Feijóo has no choice but to be with her and not against her, because her media force continues to be brutal, ”says a veteran leader who has been in the last three stages of the match.

For now, the Madrid president has avoided adding fuel to the fire in public after reading that at least 10 of the 11 members of Casado's management committee expressed, just a year ago through messages, their support for the denunciations of alleged corruption against herself launched by the former party leader.

"Past water does not move mills," Ayuso said on Monday from London, on an official trip.

Sources around her refused to comment on the messages published by EL PAÍS and the fact that some of those leaders who praised Casado in her struggle against her - such as Gamarra or Maroto - continue to hold high positions in the PP.

But the nerves are on the surface, and at the top they are in no rush to try to suture that internal wound in that context.

"We have taken 11 years to fix the Aznar and Rajoy thing, and we are not going to take only 11 months to solve the Casado and Ayuso thing", say sources from the national leadership of the PP, where they believe that there are more disadvantages than advantages in organizing the reappearance of Casado with Feijóo.

In the match, many also believe that Feijóo does not gain anything with a photograph with Casado.

, in reference to the president of Alianza Popular from 1987 to 1989 who, like Casado, never won an election and has been erased from the party's history.

The rehabilitation of Feijóo's predecessor is therefore ruled out in the medium term, say sources close to Feijóo, despite the fact that in public the party insists that it would not mind having him.

“The doors of this headquarters are open for him and for any other militant.

Singularly, to him, because it has been very important, ”said the PP campaign spokesman, Borja Sémper, on Monday when asked if the PP plans to recover Casado in some act.

Casado has not been helped either by the leaking of internal messages from the steering committee, just one year after his fall, which has made Genoa very angry.

In Feijóo's environment they describe as "disgusting" that someone has revealed these private conversations, although they do not believe it was Casado himself.

These sources also excuse how the 10 leaders who supported the ex-leader's complaints acted before betraying him by withdrawing his support, because "there was a bugle call" by Casado's entourage to support him.

Feijóo closes ranks with his hard core, which is followed by some important casadistas, and especially with Ayuso.
