When traveling, many people make safety a criterion when choosing their destination.
Are you planning a trip to Latin America?
From Brazil to Argentina, from Costa Rica to Ecuador, not all countries offer the same level of security to their inhabitants and tourists, as the Global Peace Index reminds us, a study that ranks the countries of the world according to their degree of pacifism.
Produced by the Institute for the Economy and Peace, it assesses 23 criteria including the number of homicides, the number of people imprisoned, the degree of political instability or the terrorist risk.
According to this index,
Venezuela
appears to be the
most dangerous country
(148 in the world) in Latin America, a region that includes both Central and South America.
It is followed by
Colombia
(144),
Mexico
(137), Brazil (130), Nicaragua (124), Honduras (117) and El Salvador (114).

“Venezuela recorded the greatest improvement in peace in the region,” the study points out, while “Peru recorded the largest deterioration in the overall score, due to the increase in political instability”.
This has resulted in recent weeks in demonstrations against the president in power which have hampered tourist activity, particularly at Machu Picchu.
Conversely, the country deemed the safest is
Costa Rica
(38), followed by Uruguay
(
46),
Chile
(55), Panama (61) and French Guiana (65).
If we take into account the world ranking, Iceland, New Zealand and Ireland arrive on the podium of the most peaceful nations in 2022. France only ranks 33rd in Europe and 65th world, between Oman Malawi.
Can do better.
