Since taking office in October, Giorgia Meloni, leader of the post-fascist Fratelli d'Italia party, has reiterated her country's support for kyiv.

In her first speech to Parliament, she had promised to "

continue to be a reliable partner of NATO in supporting Ukraine

Mario Draghi, Zelensky's supporter, traveled to kyiv in June with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

Meloni–Berlusconi tensions

Giorgia Meloni must, however, manage the presence in her coalition of pro-Russian partners, in particular the head of the League Matteo Salvini and the leader of Forza Italia Silvio Berlusconi, a personal friend of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

On February 12, Silvio Berlusconi launched an all-out attack against Volodymyr Zelensky, immediately attracting the wrath of the Prime Minister.
