At 16 rue du Fort-Louis in Bordeaux, next to Place André-Meunier, a former Restos du Coeur distribution location is now a “house
”
for bicycle delivery men from major food chains, such as Deliveroo and Uber Eats.
On site, there are sofas, a small kitchen, a space to repair your bike, but also a permanence of Doctors of the World.
This place, open Tuesday to Friday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., aims to allow the bike courier to be able to come "to
rest, drink a coffee, recharge his batteries
", but also to be "
informed of his rights and accompanied in its procedures
", many deliverers being undocumented sometimes living in precarious conditions.
Adeline Grippon, regional coordinator of Doctors of the World, explains that couriers "
stop working when they can't take it anymore, and not upstream
", and are therefore particularly exposed to risks, but do not think of consulting a doctor.
Mahfoud, co-president of the Association for the Mobilization and Support of Deliverers (AMAL, the Arabic word for hope), recalls that deliverers often do not have medical coverage and "that before this house opens, the
situation was very complicated
" for these couriers, who "
have no place to go for two or three hours and therefore stay in front of the Burger Kings
".

For this inauguration, many elected officials were present in the crowd.
Among them, two from La France insoumise: the deputy of Gironde Loïc Prud'homme and the European deputy Leïla Chaibi, who both denounce an "
uberization of society
".
The “
retired delivery man
” Arthur Hay, at the origin of the first union of France of bicycle couriers in 2017 in Bordeaux, was also there.
The former trade unionist welcomes the opening of this place which allows delivery people to be "
visible but in another way
".
It was during the municipal campaign that he had raised with the team of Pierre Hurmic, now mayor of Bordeaux, the idea of a house dedicated to bicycle couriers.
"
The town hall before, it was not possible to discuss our problems with them
, ”regrets the former delivery man.
“We mark the legitimacy of their existence”
Khalifa, president of AMAL and himself a courier, explains for his part that many risks weigh on this profession.
“
The delivery man, when he is knocked down by a car or a cyclist, since he is someone who speaks the language of Molière badly, he has trouble finding his way, he just has an application and everything he knows how to say, it's hello, goodbye, thank you
".
He therefore asks the people of Bordeaux "
to consider them
", affirming that these little hands of home delivery "
work all day and all evening
" and do not "
even sleep well
".

Representing the town hall of Bordeaux, the elected Harmonie Lecerf Meunier, deputy mayor in charge of access to rights, solidarity and seniors, says she is "very proud to
see that once again, the Bordelaises and Bordelais are there Do you show solidarity
"towards the deliverers.
She is pleased that the municipality "
marks in the public space the legitimacy of their existence
" and hopes that this place "
will participate in bringing into the debate
" around the pension reform project "
the living conditions of uberized people and people in a situation of migration
”.
This room is however made available by the town hall on a temporary basis, while waiting to find a permanent place to accommodate these deliverers.
