At least 28 human remains dating from the Viceroyalty have been found in the Bosque de Chapultepec.

The bodies were found by chance during excavations as part of the redevelopment of the park's Garden and Scenic Pavilion.

Experts believe that the cemetery could prove that the Spanish used the local population as labor in the nearby mills.

For archaeologist María de Lourdes López Camacho, an archaeologist at the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), it is possible that the buried people have died of the same cause.

For the expert, the fact that there are three levels of graves with a few centimeters between them could be an indication that the deaths occurred in a short period of time or in an epidemic.

Analyzes have found that the entombed bodies lent infections and nutritional deficiencies.
