The legendary actor, who has lived in Spain for decades, will present 'A Buenos Aires': it will be his farewell to the Argentine stage.

His name is synonymous with acting, both in Argentina and in Spain and, at 93 years old, Héctor Alterio continues to corroborate it every time a movie is filmed or he goes on stage.

Because he, incredibly, still does it, a little out of necessity and a little (or a lot) because of his enormous passion and vocation.

The Argentine actor, who has lived in Spain since 1975, prepares his return to a theater in Buenos Aires with

A Buenos Aires

, which is announced as his farewell to the Argentine stage.

Alterio will debut on April 7 at the Teatro Astros, for only 12 performances

The show has dramaturgy by Ángela Bacaicoa, his wife and mother of his children, Ernesto and Malena, also dedicated to acting.

In

A Buenos Aires

, it is related how Héctor, at the age of forty, in 1975, went to Spain to receive an award and when he wanted to return, there were no return planes for him.

With tangos, poetry, music and memories, Alterio will go through his life with the texts and songs of León Felipe, Cátulo Castillo,

Piazzolla

, Horacio Ferrer, Hamlet Lima Quintana and Eladia Blázquez.

By way of a trip between Buenos Aires and Madrid, he will weave his stories between his love, humor and sensitivity, accompanied on stage by the musician Juan Esteban Cuacci.

His talent led him to play leading roles in four of the first five foreign-language films selected for Oscars:

The Truce

(1974),

Camila

(1984),

The Official Story

(which won the Oscar) and

The Son of the girlfriend

(2001).

Exile

Exile, due to the threats received by Tripe A in Argentina, installed him in Madrid, where he has lived since then.

Every once in a while, work brings him back from this side of the Atlantic.

The last time was in 2013.

Then he did it to film the film

Fermín, glories of tango

, by Oliver Kolker and Hernán Findling, where he shared a cast with the Argentines Gastón Pauls and Luciano Cáceres, with a character who expresses himself only through words or tango phrases.

But a few years earlier, in 2008, Alterio had set foot on a Buenos Aires stage when he starred with his Spanish colleague

José Sacristán

 in the play

Dos menos

, by the French Samuel Benchetrit, on Paseo La Plaza, directed by Oscar Martínez.

The piece then continued on stage with a season at the Fernán Gómez theater.

from Madrid.

Alterio later recalled that during that visit he had mixed feelings that moved him a lot.

According to what he said, the feeling was contradictory, on the one hand he wanted to return but, at the same time, he didn't.

Something that, surely, he will feel again during his stay in the city where he was born and where he began to relate to the theater.

That early vocation never left him again and led him to star in dozens of movies, series and plays.

One of the last was

The Father

, by Florian Zeller, where he dazzled and moved with his performance, that of a man who begins to lose his memory.

Internationally awarded, even with a Goya of Honor, for his career, Alterio is also happy for having bequeathed his love for acting to his children who follow in his footsteps in the profession, in Spain.

A Buenos Aires

will have performances on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in April at 8:30 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased from March 1, online at www.teatro-astros.com or at the Astros theater box office, Av. Corrientes 746.
