Cristina's block in the Senate was fractured

2023-02-22T20:38:05.937Z

There are four PJ legislators who answer to the provinces plus Vigo from Cordoba who answers to Schiaretti. It is even more difficult for the ruling party to obtain a quorum.

In the run-up to the preparatory session in which Senate authorities are ratified, the Frente de Todos interblock of that Chamber faces a strong internal crisis: a

group of four legislators stepped aside and set up a separate bench.

Thus, the pro-government bench of the Chamber chaired by Cristina Kirchner and the ruling party will have greater difficulties in achieving a quorum of 37 senators

.

The new bench is called the Federal Unit and its members include three legislators who had already expressed their discontent with the bench on other occasions: Edgardo

Kueider

from Entre Ríos ,

Carlos "Camau" Espínola from Corrientes and Guillermo Snopek from Jujuy.

But the surprise is that

Eugenia Catalfamo

from San Luis , loyal to Governor Alberto Rodríguez Saá, and Alejandra Vigo, from Cordoba who answers to Juan Schiaretti, also joined.

"We seek to be an alternative from which the possibility of contributing to the reflection on the Argentina that we want for ourselves and future generations is prioritized, without cracks, with discussions that propose solutions in the short, medium and long term," they said in the statement in who confirmed the news.

The statement in which they confirmed the breakup

Doing so would mean not only an act of rebellion against Vice President Cristina Kirchner,

who leads the Upper House, but also a political move to

keep the key to the quorum.

Even if there is a change of government after this year's election.

Camau and Kueider make up the block of 21 -National and Popular Front- led by José Mayans;

Catalfamo and Snopek, the 14-year-old -Citizen Unity- chaired by Juliana Di Tullio.

Kueider was one of the few "albertistas" that remained, but dissatisfied with "broken promises" of the Government, he launched public criticism and days ago he presented his own project to reduce VAT for residential users and is demanding that it be dealt with.

Rodríguez Saá surprised by showing up with Schiaretti weeks ago, after the Cordovan confirmed the creation of a third space with Juan Manuel Urtubey.

His departure would not surprise either.

The rumor had spread on other occasions.

In fact, in 2021 there was an attempt to break the bloc and in 2022, after the split vote against the Agreement with the IMF,

another search that President Alberto Fernández himself intervened to stop.

But on this occasion, different sources assure that "the conditions are given."

But attempts to retain them on this occasion were unsuccessful.

Some claims exceed the Senate and hit the Casa Rosada as well.

Currently the FdT is an interblock of 35 legislators divided into two benches, one is called the National and Popular Front and the other Citizen Unit.

The first is made up of 21 senators and the second 14.

They fictitiously separated last year as a maneuver orchestrated by the vice president to retain one more place in the magistracy.

waiting for a session

Meanwhile, this Thursday at 11 a.m. the preparatory session to ratify authorities is scheduled.

Together for Change, will give a quorum for this institutional procedure.

The presence of Cristina Kirchner, who is in the South, is not expected.

But the ruling party also wants to convene a session for that same afternoon to deal with some of the almost 30 extraordinary issues proposed by the president: the Lucio Law and the military and judicial Agreement at least.

The Zero Alcohol Law is not on the table because legislators from wine-producing provinces are calling for changes.

To hold a session, the ruling party hardly has a margin of error.

He needs perfect assistance and help from two of the three strongest allies.
